More than 200 volunteers participate in the event as characters from Dickens' stories or street performers. Activities include:

Dancers and street musicians perform are on the streets throughout the event. Violinists, hand bell choirs, harpists, carolers, pianists, even a water harmonica player all add to the entertaining street scene.

Victorian treats abound, from authentic fish 'n' chips to turkey legs, plum puddings, roasted chestnuts and sugar plums.

A holiday bazaar arts & crafts area encircles Franklin's charming Public Square, where horse drawn carriages allow visitors to see Historic Downtown Franklin at a slower pace.

Mule Day is an annual celebration of all things related to mules and is held in Columbia, Tennessee, the "Mule Capital" of the world. Begun in 1840 as "Breeder's Day", a meeting for mule breeders, it now attracts over 200,000 people and takes place over four days. In addition to mules, traditional Appalachian food, music, dancing, and crafts are featured. The smell of barbecue specialties and homemade pies blends with the smoky aroma of roasted corn and funnel cake sweetness. The highlight of the Mule Day festivities is the Mule Day Parade.

Cradled in the heart of Tennessee's natural wonder and magical charm, 200 jewel-like acres of Houston County are nestled quietly in a range of hills and valleys, unequalled in beauty by any part of the highland rim portion of the state. According to legend, Irish railroad workers who were reminded of the valleys, hills, hollows, and meadows of their homeland, Ireland, gave the name Erin to this small community. The Houston County Area Chamber of Commerce presents its annual Irish Day Celebration in Erin, Tenn. From the Grand Parade, Leprechauns and banquets to carnival rides, pageants and arts and craft booths, there is entertainment all around. From wee tots to wise old leprechauns, we have something for everyone. Relive the spirit of St. Patrick at one of the largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations south of Chicago. Don't forget to wear green!

Tin Pan South is America's largest music festival dedicated to songs and songwriters. Produced by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, the festival is a fundraiser in support of NSAI's efforts in Congress. Each year, in late March/early April, several hundred songwriters perform approximately 100 shows over the course of the week. For five days and nights the festival encompasses Nashville venues, elevating songwriters and the contribution they make to the city and to the world of music. Along with raising money for NSAI's legislative efforts, Tin Pan South underscores the rich cultural heritage of Tennessee and draws attention to the wide variety of songwriters who live and work here today.

Over the past 16 years, the festival has featured writers such as Shawn Colvin, Art Garfunkel, Rodney Crowell, Townes Van Zandt, Garth Brooks, Jimmy Webb, Dierks Bentley, Gordon Lightfoot, Donna Summer, Melissa Manchester, Loretta Lynn, America, Carole King, Butch Walker, Lisa Loeb and Kenny Loggins, just to name a handful.

Metro Parks Theater Department and Fort Negley/Two Rivers Mansion present The Elusive Mr. Twain by Carolyn German. Based on historical record, The Elusive Mr. Twain imagines the story of two women living in the post-Civil War South who develop an unlikely friendship after they discover a mutual dream of becoming newspaper journalists. Encouraged by the popularity of the legendary author and humorist Mark Twain, the pair sets off “up North” determined to win an audience with the man himself.

The entire city of Nashville will celebrate the literary heritage and humor of Mark Twain during Nashville’s Citywide Celebration Of Mark Twain, August 2009-May 2010. The inclusive and cross-discipline artistic celebration of this lively, provoking and distinctly American writer will include book club discussions, art exhibits, theater presentations, dance performances, marionette shows, and musical tributes as rich and as varied as Twain's writing.

The 21st Annual Nashville Lawn and Garden Show will celebrate the beauty created when natural artistry and manmade artistry are combined in gardens. Staged to the theme, Artistic by Nature, the 2010 show promises to offer inspiration, ideas and information for gardeners and garden lovers. The Nashville Lawn and Garden Show is Tennessee’s premier horticultural event and one of the largest gardening shows in the South. The 2010 Nashville Lawn and Garden Show has been named a Top 20 Event for winter 2010 by the South East Tourism Society of the USA. Produced by the Horticultural Association of Tennessee, the annual event is staged at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.

Centerpiece of the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show is always a naturalized presentation of more than 20 outstanding live gardens created by professional landscape designers. In addition to thousands of flowers and plants, most of the gardens include water features, ranging from small fountains to large waterfalls, and elaborate structures such as rock walls, terraces, pergolas and gazebos. A series of 20 free lectures is presented throughout the four-day show by expert horticulturists and garden designers. The show also includes 250 exhibit booths of horticultural products, services, and equipment for show and sale; in 2009, vendors from 12 states participated in the event. The show’s spectacular floral design gallery features the work of more than 25 of the best designers in the mid-south region. The show annually attracts more than 22,000 paid attendees, plus several thousand additional people who are exhibitors, speakers and volunteers.

Former Gaither Vocal Band singer Guy Penrod and the Annie Moses Band, a family ensemble who plays a blend of classical and contemporary, will be among the artists joining songstress Amy Grant for Lipscomb University's fifth annual Lighting of the Green concert on December 1. The Lipscomb student choruses will join Grant, emcee Lelan Statom, WTVF meteorologist, and additional musical guests such as Buddy Greene, a guitar pickin' singer/songwriter, to kick off the holiday season with a free outdoor concert in the Allen Arena Mall on the Lipscomb campus.

Additional festivities include a photo session with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus; thousands of Christmas lights including a 35-foot-tall Christmas tree; and The Branches of Love Hall of Christmas Trees displaying around 40 custom-decorated Christmas trees. Food from Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Blue Coast Burrito and Pizza Hut will be available for purchase. As a Lighting of the Green first, Lipscomb's children's theater program will present an original play, Wolf Calls and Pig Tales, a retelling of the Three Little Pigs nursery rhyme, at 4:00pm in Collins Alumni Auditorium. The cost is $5 per person. The event will also serve as a collection event for the Second Harvest Food Bank's Feeding Hope Challenge campaign to collect 300,000 pounds of food in just 30 days, beginning Dec. 1. Bringing lawn chairs and blankets is encouraged. Handicapped parking will be available in the Allen Arena parking garage.
