Sing Me Back Home is the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s permanent exhibit, an exciting, multi-layered journey through the life of country music.

Through artifacts, photographs, original recordings, archival video, newly produced films, touchscreen interactive media and beautifully rendered text panels, Sing Me Back Home immerses visitors in the history and sounds of country music, its meanings and the lives and voices of many of its honored personalities.

A self-guided tour covering two floors of the Museum, Sing Me Back Home tells the story of country music from its pre-commercial roots in the nineteenth century through its vibrant life in the twenty-first century. Organized chronologically, the story moves through large subjects such as “Country During the War Years,” while each glass artifact case has a unique theme. Visitors can read about the music and its makers or let the powerful photos, instruments, costumes - and especially the music - tell the story by themselves.

Throughout your journey you are able to see the two-floor, glassed-in central archives where the Museum’s vast collection is housed and where Museum staff are seen working with historical artifacts and recordings. This unprecedented view into the core archives is like a window into a shared history and the processes from which the Museum exhibits emerge.

At the close of the journey, visitors enter the Hall of Fame Rotunda, the hallowed space where the Country Music Hall of Fame® members are honored alongside American master Thomas Hart Benton’s famous last painting, The Sources of Country Music.

Sing Me Back Home is just what the title suggests: an exploration of the power of music to make living history and to connect us to our deepest feelings.

TSU's Space for New Media Inaugural Exhibition honors the intention and work of the Cause Collective. Along the Way is a 30' wide, 10' tall, Sundance "New Frontiers" video from the Cause Collective, a team of artists, designers and ethnographers who create innovative art in the public realm. Their projects explore and enliven public spaces by creating a dynamic conversation between issues, sites, and public audience.

Along the Way is a 20-minute video mosaic that includes over 1,500 videos taken by the artists featuring the people and places of Oakland, California and the surrounding Bay Area. This piece bears witness to a nine month journey that the artists undertook among the people of the Bay Area.

In order to take away some of the mystery from the audition process, this workshop brings together the Artistic Directors from four of Nashville’s professional theatres—People’s Branch Theatre, Tennessee Repertory Theatre, Chaffin’s Barn Dinner Theatre, and Nashville Shakespeare Festival to provide participants with a glimpse into the process. Participants will present a three-minute audition consisting of two contrasting monologues and receive immediate feedback from these directors—thoughts on the monologue choice; ideas for the actor on how to be considered for callbacks and casting; in general, what the directors look for in open call auditions. In addition to hearing other participants’ audition feedback, there will be a half-hour break midway through the master class to provide an opportunity for more informal discussion and networking.

Weekend Classics is a continuing weekly series of classic film projected in 35mm as they were intended to be seen. Showtimes are usually Saturday-Sunday at noon and Monday at 7:00pm, though sometimes screenings are added, altered or removed pending first-run schedule.

As legendary for the movies he directed as for his role in the real-life drama of the communist witch-hunts, Elia Kazan earned a storied place in Hollywood history. Born in 1909 in Istanbul, Kazan began his career in the 1940s on the New York stage, where he directed the stage version of "A Streetcar Named Desire”. He would go on to direct 21 feature films, winning three Oscars, five Tonys, four Golden Globes and numerous awards along the way.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, November 7-9
After losing the family plantation to creditors, aging Southern belle Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh) travels to New Orleans seeking solace in her sister, Stella (Kim Hunter). Instead, she goes toe-to-toe with Stella's brute of a husband, Stanley (Marlon Brando). Leigh, Hunter and Karl Malden all took home Oscars for their work in this sizzling adaptation of Tennessee Williams's classic rumination on carnal attraction and faded gentility. Dir. Elia Kazan, USA, 1951, 125 min, 35mm

PANIC IN THE STREETS, November 14-16
A medical official races against time to stop a deadly epidemic from spreading across the United States in this taut drama. Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Clinton Reed (Richard Widmark) frantically scours New Orleans to locate two murderers (Jack Palance and Zero Mostel) infected with a deadly plague. Reed must inoculate the criminals and anyone with whom they've come into contact, without causing widespread pandemonium. Dir. Elia Kazan, USA, 1950, 96 min, 35mm

ON THE WATERFRONT, November 21-23
Winner of eight Oscars Kazan's classic morality tale stars Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy, a has-been boxer who experiences a crisis of conscience while working for mobbed-up union boss Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb). Terry turns a blind eye when Friendly's thugs kill a fellow dockworker to keep him from testifying in a corruption case, but he has second thoughts when the victim's sister (Eva Marie Saint) urges him to take a stand. Dir. Elia Kazan, USA, 1955, 108 min, 35mm

EAST OF EDEN, November 21-23
Set in California's Salinas Valley, Elia Kazan's adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel centers on Cal Trask (James Dean), the black sheep son of a stern farmer (Raymond Massey). Tired of being compared to his perfect brother, troublemaker Cal tries in vain to please his father. The two finally face off when Cal confronts his dad with the truth about his allegedly dead mother. Julie Harris, Jo Van Fleet and Burl Ives co-star.
Dir. Elia Kazan, USA, 1955, 108 min, 35mm

Inarguably the most controversial film of the year, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that Antichrist does earn this hype, and then some…Long accused of being mysoginist, filmmaker Lars von Trier ups the ante by creating a scenario of a couple in grief (Willem Defoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, both in remarkable performances) who literally tear one another, and themselves, apart. Conceived during a period of depression, the viewer wonders if this couple doesn’t represent the warring factions of von Trier’s id and super-ego. If nothing else, Lars von Trier’s most personal film succeeds in bringing a singular vision of staggering beauty and harrowing grief together while simultaneously out-shocking and trivializing the likes of torture films like Saw and Hostel. It is most likely that you have never encountered anything quite like Antichrist, whose unquestionably inspired imagery of the first two acts are, ahem, cut to pieces in its uncompromisingly brutal third act. Proceed with utmost caution, and consider asking the staff exactly when to look away. Dir. Lars von Trier, Germany/Denmark, 2009, 109min, 35mm.

Please note: Due to images of graphic sexuality, brutality, and combinations thereof, no one under 18 will be admitted.

In his most powerful performance to date, Ben Foster stars as Will Montgomery, a U.S. Army officer who has just returned home from a tour in Iraq and is assigned to the Army's Casualty Notification service. Partnered with fellow officer Tony Stone (Woody Harrelson) to bear the bad news to the loved ones of fallen soldiers, Will faces the challenge of completing his mission while seeking to find comfort and healing back on the home front. When he finds himself drawn to Olivia (Samantha Morton), to whom he has just delivered the news of her husband's death, Will's emotional detachment begins to dissolve and the film reveals itself as a surprising, humorous, moving and very human portrait of grief, friendship and survival. Featuring tour-de-force performances from Foster, Harrelson and Morton, and a brilliant directorial debut by Oren Moverman, The Messenger brings us into the inner lives of these outwardly steely heroes to reveal their fragility with compassion and dignity. Dir. Oren Moverman, USA, 2009, 112min, 35mm

This is the second part in a twelve part series presented by the OutCentral Cultural Center and the Nashville Film Festival. Looking for Langston is a 1989 British black and white film directed by Isaac Julien. It combines authentic archival newsreel footage of Harlem in the 1920s with scripted scenes to produce a non-linear impressionistic story line celebrating black gay identity and desire during the artistic and cultural period known as the Harlem Renaissance in New York. The film is a short, running about 42 minutes. Brother to Brother is a film written and directed by Rodney Evans and released in 2004. The film debuted at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival before playing the gay and lesbian film festival circuit, with a limited theatrical release in late 2004. Art student Perry (Anthony Mackie) befriends an elderly homeless man named Bruce Nugent (Roger Robinson), who turns out to have been an important figure in the Harlem Renaissance. Through recalling his friendships with other important Harlem Renaissance figures Langston Hughes (Daniel Sunjata), Aaron Douglas, Wallace Thurman and Zora Neale Hurston, Bruce chronicles some of the challenges he faced as a young, black, gay writer in the 1920s. Perry discovers that the challenges of homophobia and racism he faces in the early 21st century closely parallel Bruce's.

"God on Trial," inspired by the legend that concentration camp prisoners conducted a mock trial against the Almighty, will be shown at Congregation Micah at 11:30am on Saturday, November 21. The event is free and open to the public.

"God on Trial" is a 2008 BBC/WGBH Boston television play set in Auschwitz, where Jewish prisoners from all walks of life try God on grounds that the Ruler of the Universe has broken his covenant with the Jews by allowing the Nazis to commit genocide. "This screenplay speaks to universal questions about faith and philosophy," said Rick Wise, Chair of Micah's Lifelong Learning Committee, which is sponsoring the Brown Bag lunch event.

Following the screening, a discussion will focus on such questions as: Why is there so much suffering in the world? What kind of God would allow the Holocaust to happen? How do you interpret the film's conclusion?

A Reform Jewish synagogue known for its diversity and inclusiveness, Congregation Micah serves nearly 500 member families under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Laurie Rice and Rabbi Philip (Flip) Rice.

Presented by: Helena Simonett, Assistant Professor of Latin American Studies, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Literature and History, Blair School of Music. Mexico, France, Netherlands, Germany (2007) Dir: Carlos Reygadas. This deeply affecting drama, performed by a cast of mostly nonprofessional actors, reveals the everyday raptures of an isolated Mennonite community in northern Mexico. Johan, a farmer with seven towheaded children and a devoted wife, Esther, has fallen in love with a neighbor, Marianne. Though tormented by the affair, Johan feels Marianne is his truer match, and he, with unintended cruelty, does not hide his struggle from Esther, whom he also loves. While Esther waits on the sidelines, tending the children, keeping the house, and driving the family tractor, Johan explores the limits of his faith and his faithfulness. This gorgeous film was included on numerous top ten lists for 2008. Plautdietsch and Spanish with English subtitles. Not Rated. 145 minutes.

Presented by: Todd Hughes, Director, Language Center. Funded in part by the Language Center. Held in conjunction with International Education Week. Presenters will provide an introduction and facilitate post-screening discussion for each film. Sarratt Cinema is located on the first floor of the Sarratt Student Center at Vanderbilt University. For additional information and parking maps, visit the International Lens web site (http://www.vanderbilt.edu/internationallens) or call (615) 322-6400.

Legendary action-cinema master John Woo and international superstar Tony Leung reunite for the first time since the 1992 classic HARD BOILED in RED CLIFF, the epic historical drama based on a legendary 208 A.D. battle that heralded the end of the Han Dynasty. RED CLIFF opens as power hungry Prime Minister-turned-General Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) seeks permission from the Han dynasty Emperor to organize a southward-bound mission designed to crush the two troublesome warlords who stand in his way, Liu Bei (You Yong) and Sun Quan (Chang Chen). As the expedition gets underway, Cao Cao's troops rain destruction on Liu Bei's army, forcing him into retreat. Liu Bei's military strategist Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) knows that the rebels' only hope for survival is to form an alliance with rival warlord Sun Quan, and reaches out to Sun Quan's trusted advisor, war hero Zhou Yu (Tony Leung). Vastly outnumbered by Cao Cao's brutal, fast-approaching army, the warlords band together to mount a heroic campaign – unrivaled in history – that changes the face of China forever. A massive hit in Asia and the most expensive Asian film production of all time, RED CLIFF is a breathtaking war epic that marks the triumphant return of John Woo. Dir. John Woo, China, 148min, 35mm, rated R.

At once a gripping thriller and a tragic drama of nearly Greek proportions, Revanche is the stunning, Oscar–nominated, international breakthrough film from Austrian filmmaker Götz Spielmann. In a ragged section of Vienna, hardened ex-con Alex (the mesmerizing Johannes Krisch) works as an assistant in a brothel, where he falls for Ukrainian hooker Tamara (Irina Potapenko). Their desperate plans for escape unexpectedly intersect with the lives of a rural cop (Andreas Lust) and his seemingly content wife (Ursula Strauss). With meticulous, elegant direction, Spielmann creates a tense, existential, and surprising portrait of vengeance and redemption, and a journey into the darkest forest of human nature, in which violence and beauty exist side by side. Dir. Goetz Spielmann, Austria, 2008, 121min, in German w English subtitles, 35mm

The Yes Men are anti-corporate pranksters who create phony Web sites to get themselves invited to high-level corporate conferences and media events - where they give hilarious, Swiftian analyses that unmask global injustice and satirize human rights abuses. They are the 21st century's answer to Timothy Leary's proselytizing for acid and Ken Kesey's busload of hipsters. The big difference is that they care less about changing minds than changing policy. But announcing, as spokespeople for Dow Chemical, that they will at last take full financial responsibility for the victims of Bhopal, they create a media sensation that embarrasses the real powers that be. And, outfitted in their wacky "SurvivaBall" getups, the Yes Men address a room full of straight-laced suits who don't think there's anything funny about going to insane lengths to assure one's personal safety in the event of any and all calamities. The Yes Men don't exactly speak truth to power. But their hearts are in the right place -- right next to their funny bones. Dir. Andy Bichlbaum & Mike Bonanno, USA, 2009, 87min, 35mm

A reflection on art, life and the movies, The Beaches of Agnes is a magnificent new film from the great Agnes Varda, a richly cinematic self portrait that touches on everything from the feminist movement and the black panthers to the films of husband Jacques Demy and the birth of the French New Wave. Varda weaves photographs, vintage footage, scenes from her films and present-day sequences into a memorable voyage through her life.

Following on from SCHOOL OF ROCK, BEFORE SUNSET and A SCANNER DARKLY, director Richard Linklater has arrived at the feet of Orson Welles, the film based on a novel of the same name by Robert Kaplow. In November 1937, a teenager with dreams of making it on Broadway (Zac Efron as Richard Samuels), runs into and is cast by Orson Welles (Christian McKay, discovered for the part while doing a one-man show as Welles), who is at this point a famous NY dramatist mounting a production of Julius Caesar, but well before his time as a filmmaker. Richard is intent on the approval of his quick-tempered director, but finds himself distracted by by the irresistibly ambitious Sonja (Claire Danes), whose soft spot for more powerful men brings the tensions on set to a boil. Dir. Richard Linklater, USA/UK, 2008, 107min, 35mm
