To learn about the people and places in The Widow of the South book, we offer, in conjunction with Carnton Plantation, a joint Widow of the South tour. The tour includes the 90-minute walking tour of downtown Franklin and an hour-long guided house tour of Carnton Plantation in one combined price. For the Carnton portion of the tour, a reservation is not required. Simply visit Carnton during its regular hours. Please note: The last tour of the day is at 4:00pm at Carnton. For the downtown portion of the tour, call us at 615-400-3808 for a reservation and time for your tour.

The Widow of the South, written by long-time Franklin resident and Historic Carnton Plantation Association board member Robert Hicks, centers on the life of Carrie McGavock, the mistress of Carnton before, during and after the Civil War. After the hardcover release in September, 2005, the book rose to #5 and spent eight weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list in the fall of 2005. Now in paperback and published in French, Spanish, Arabic and Mandarin, the book gives readers an understanding of the historical significance of the Battle of Franklin, described by National Geographic as "the most unjustly forgotten battle of the entire Civil War." (April, 2005)

The 21st Annual Nashville Lawn and Garden Show will celebrate the beauty created when natural artistry and manmade artistry are combined in gardens. Staged to the theme, Artistic by Nature, the 2010 show promises to offer inspiration, ideas and information for gardeners and garden lovers. The Nashville Lawn and Garden Show is Tennessee’s premier horticultural event and one of the largest gardening shows in the South. The 2010 Nashville Lawn and Garden Show has been named a Top 20 Event for winter 2010 by the South East Tourism Society of the USA. Produced by the Horticultural Association of Tennessee, the annual event is staged at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.

Centerpiece of the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show is always a naturalized presentation of more than 20 outstanding live gardens created by professional landscape designers. In addition to thousands of flowers and plants, most of the gardens include water features, ranging from small fountains to large waterfalls, and elaborate structures such as rock walls, terraces, pergolas and gazebos. A series of 20 free lectures is presented throughout the four-day show by expert horticulturists and garden designers. The show also includes 250 exhibit booths of horticultural products, services, and equipment for show and sale; in 2009, vendors from 12 states participated in the event. The show’s spectacular floral design gallery features the work of more than 25 of the best designers in the mid-south region. The show annually attracts more than 22,000 paid attendees, plus several thousand additional people who are exhibitors, speakers and volunteers.

You won’t find Cascade Hollow on most maps. Nestled on the Highland Rim of the Cumberland Plateau, you will find us about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga. The ancient limestone shelf of this plateau provides water than runs fresh and clear from the nearby Cascade Springs, and it made the perfect spot to build a distillery.

Come tour the distillery and discover George Dickel’s award winning whisky and its time honored traditions. The Visitor’s Center is filled with antiques, photos and special memories, and the George Dickel General Store is a wonderful place to visit and drop a line to family or friends at our very own U.S. Post Office – the only working post office at any distillery in the United States. If you prefer, you can rock on our porch and enjoy the abundant nature that picturesque Cascade Hollow has to offer.

Whenever you're in the vicinity of Lynchburg, just over an hour's drive from Nashville, drop by for a firsthand look at our Distillery. One of our guides will accompany you on a tour and tell you the complete story of our whiskey. And you’ll probably hear an interesting story or two about Mr. Jack as well.

Our tour is mostly out-of-doors and involves quite a lot of walking, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Tours last about an hour and fifteen minutes and start every fifteen minutes or so. Visitors are asked not to take backpacks, camera bags, tote bags, shopping bags or other large bags on the tour.

Due to Tennessee law, the White Rabbit Bottle Shop is closed on Sundays. It is also closed on the days the Distillery is closed to visitors, as well as on certain holidays like the Fourth of July and Labor Day. However, we are allowed to do business on Election Day. So plan your visit accordingly should you desire to purchase Jack Daniel's commemorative decanters from the White Rabbit Bottle Shop.
