Our first-ever Double Header Holiday with two great holiday shows playing in repertory. It's the Nuns vs the Plaids in this holiday showdown where BRT Guests are the winners! Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical (November 14-December 21, 2008) The show is presented as the first TV special taped in the Cable Access Studio built by Reverend Mother in the convent basement. It stars the nuns you love, plus Father Virgil, and four of Mount Saint Helen's most talented students. Featuring all new songs including "Twelve Days Prior to Christmas," "Santa Ain't Comin' to Our House," "We Three Kings of Orient Are Us," and "It's Better to Give Than to Receive," this show is filled with typical Nunsense humor. It's the perfect way to ensure that your holiday season is Mary (or is that merry) and bright! Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings (November 21-December 23, 2008) This show is brand-new that offers the best of Forever Plaid tied-up in a nifty package with a big Christmas bow on top! Filled with Christmas standards that have all been "Plaid-erized," our boys are back to do their Christmas Special. Sprinkled among the Christmas offerings are audience favorites like their riotous three-minute-and-eleven-second version of "The Ed Sullivan Show" - this time featuring the Rockettes, the Chipmunks and The Vienna Boys Choir, and a Plaid Caribbean Christmas which puts the "Day-O" in Excelsis. This is one holiday treat that is truly "heaven-sent!"

Seating: House opens 30 minutes prior to show time. Seating is open, in other words, the early bird gets the better worm. We do not, however, oversell performances, so if you have a ticket, you will have a seat. Check the website for dinner and show package prices and for further details on the meal package with Saffire Restaurant.

Legally Blonde The Musical will take you from the sorority house to the halls of justice with Broadway’s brightest new heroine (and, of course, her chihuahua, Bruiser). The verdict? This much fun shouldn’t be legal!

Mrs. Warren's Profession is one of George Bernard Shaw's most dramatic, controversial and thought provoking plays. Banned for eight years, the show was originally condemned as immoral, with its focus on prostitution and incest. Today, however, Mrs. Warren's Profession is applauded for its astute dissection of the corruption at the heart of Victorian society.

Come spend the holidays with all your old favorite citizens of Tuna, Texas and make some new friends while you're there. Mark Thomas and Asa Ambrister, along with some split-second costume changes, portray all 24 citizens of Texas' third smallest town, where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.

This time, it's 24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as the delightfully eccentric characters attempt to cope with seasonal traumas such as a disaster prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard decorating contest that is being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom! Bring the whole family and join in the holiday fun! This show is written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard and is directed by Vickie Bailey.

Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet. This classic of the American theatre is David Mamet at his best. 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of his Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, so a celebration is in order. This scalding comedy-drama took Broadway and London by storm when it opened in 1984, when it also garnered a Tony nomination for best play. Never has the author's ear for the rhythms of contemporary speech been more keen than in this tale of cutthroat competition among real estate salesmen. In the first act, the salesmen vie for position as they gulp their cocktails in the local Chinese restaurant. The second act shifts to the office where the promising Glengarry Glen Ross leads have been filched. Mamet’s not-so-subtle reflection on how bad things happen when vulnerable people are reduced to targets by unscrupulous sharks unfortunately still resonates today from the current credit card debacle to the subprime mortgage collapse.

Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire. A brilliant new play, Rabbit Hole won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for drama. Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day.

Darwin in Malibu by Crispin Whittell. One hundred and twenty years after his death, Charles Darwin is hanging out in a beach house overlooking the Pacific with a girl young enough to be his daughter. His peace is rudely disturbed when his old friend Thomas Huxley washes up on the beach closely followed by the Bishop of Oxford. And Darwin suddenly finds himself entangled in an enthralling and thought-provoking comedy about God, science, and plastic surgery. You may think you know how such a discussion would go between the father of evolution and one of evolution’s most outspoken critics in his day, but you will be surprised.

The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris. This hilarious one-man show has been one of Tennessee Rep’s most oft-asked-for holiday productions. Out of work, our slacker decides to become a Macy's elf during the seasonal crunch. At first the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa's workshop, he becomes battle weary and bitter. Taking consolation in the fact that some of the other elves were television extras on One Life to Live, he grins and bears it, occasionally taking out his frustrations on the children and parents alike.

La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini. Featuring the Nashville Symphony and sung in Italian with projected English translations.

Puccini’s beloved opera needs little introduction. Always championed as one of the most perfect operas ever written, La Bohème is a powerful and beautiful love letter to the precious nature of love and life itself. Follow the lives of Mimi the seamstress and Rodolfo the poet as their love story begins in a loft in Paris. Accompanied by Puccini’s glorious music, the characters become more thrillingly real with every moment…with all the joy and heartbreak life offers.

GroundWorks Theatre continues its 5th season of exclusively presenting Nashville premiere productions with company co-founder Robert A. O'Connell's original Christmas comedy "The Road to Bethlehem." On the Eve of the Big Event in Bethlehem, two simple shepherds get a visit from a well-meaning but occasionally dim Angel, trying to steer them toward the City of David. Along the way, they meet a conscientious Roman Centurion, some fiery local revolutionaries, an overworked innkeeper, and a certain well-known little drummer boy.

Playwright/Director O'Connell describes the show as "a comic look at the reaction of the Bethlehem locals to this big event, the birth of Christ the Savior, on Christmas morning. Skepticism and faith both come in for their fair share of teasing, but in the end, what wins out is the wonder of that first Christmas and what it can mean to each of us."

This show is the standard by which all others are measured. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play and Gabriel Pascal's movie Pygmalion, with book, music and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, My Fair Lady is triumphant. Henry Higgins, a Professor of Phonetics, takes on the challenge of transforming Eliza Doolittle, a common cockney flower girl, into a duchess. Over the course of several months Eliza, who moves into the Higgins household, is put through a gruelling course of phonetics and elocution lessons by Higgins until she triumphs as a well-spoken and beautiful lady. With beloved songs including Wouldn't It Be Loverly?, With a Little Bit of Luck, The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, On the Street Where You Live, Get Me to the Church on Time and I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face it's no wonder everyone -- not just Henry Higgins -- falls in love with Eliza Doolittle.

This stirring dramatization of the story of Helen Keller is one of the most successful and warmly admired plays of the modern stage. Blind and mute, and nobody knows what Helen's fate might have been had she not come under the tutelage of Annie Sullivan, an Irish girl who had been born blind. The Miracle Worker is principally concerned with the emotional relationship between the lonely teacher and her blind charge. Little Helen, trapped in her secret world, is bitter, violent, spoiled and almost animal like. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind waiting to be rescued from that dark, tortured silence. Annie's success with Helen comes only after some of the most turbulent, violent, and emotion packed scenes ever presented on the stage.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning love story takes inspiration from painter Georges Seurat's masterpiece, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," bringing the painting's colorful setting and characters to vibrant, comic life. With a score by six-time Tony award-winning legend Stephen Sondheim, a book by three-time Tony winner James Lapine and direction by Olivier Award nominee Sam Buntrock, Sunday in the Park with George celebrates the art of creation and the creation of art.

This long running Off-Broadway absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. In this, Steve Martin's first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century's achievements and prospects as well as other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness.

It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent '60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus' meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As his radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.

Our Double Header Holiday package returns for 2009 where you choose which show you want to see. Either show is the perfect way to ensure that your holiday season is merry and bright!

The Last Night of Ballyhoo takes place in Atlanta in December of 1939. Gone with the Wind is having its world premiere, and Hitler is invading Poland, but Atlanta's elitist German Jews are much more concerned with who is going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the season.

A Hard-Boiled Christmas is an all-new holiday revue featuring some of your favorite Boiler Room cast members, highlights from previous BRT holiday shows, sketch comedy, and tons of great holiday music.

Three points of view about a poignant drama are related by three characters addressing the audience directly. First there is Molly, blind since early infancy, who describes her world before and after an operation to restore some of her sight. Her husband, Frank, who pushed Molly into this operation, relates his view of his wife's journey into sightedness and his dealings with her doctor.

Molly's once-famous eye surgeon, Mr. Rice, watches both Molly and Frank and reveals his opinion of them along with his own fears in handling the operation. Through it all we see each character's painful and happy histories, their memories and the events that led them to meet. Their stories interweave on stage, threading in and around each other's lives, until the unexpected and touching conclusion to this striking tale.

What happens to old gods when no one believes in them anymore? The search for gainful supernatural employment and the philosophy of spirituality are each at the heart of Three Gods, a heavenly funny farce that looks at one of the most radical shifts in Western civilization and philosophy - Christianity. The Gods of Mount Olympus are in trouble; They don't have many worshippers left, they can't get their thunderbolts to work, and suddenly they're in the middle of a hostile takeover and they have forty-eight hours to vacate the premises. Set in a bar on Mount Olympus over Easter weekend, this ridiculously tender look at the personalities of deities explores the question of what it means to exist in a world that no longer has faith in you.

"This is an idea that has been stewing around in my head for a long time, and it's a funny and touching way to explore some of the deepest questions we as a species ask ourselves. The Greek pantheon of gods and goddesses are wonderfully rich characters with lots of good, bad, and overall human qualities that make them perfect for the stage." - Ross Brooks

How far would you go for your child? For Genevra and Joshua Bradley, the question is no longer hypothetical. Their three-year-old son, Mac, is next on the waiting list to get into the Bright Ideas Early Childhood Development Academy - and everyone knows once you're in there, your life will unfold with glorious ease. Josh and Gen have had to scramble all their lives to get this far ... and now they're one fatal dinner party away from the ultimate success as parents: The Right Pre-School. You may never look at pre-school - or pesto - the same way again ...

"This play is by a wonderfully talented young American playwright, and it's one of the funniest plays I've read in a long time. It's got that mix of darkness and absurdity that is a perfect fit for PBT, and it's also a great satire of modern parenting, the school system, and overall human behavior. A great way for young parents to laugh at putting their babies in school." - Ross Brooks

A delightful, funny and wise folk tale set in the Irish isles. A simple fisherman hooks a talking flounder who grants wishes! Though the contented fisherman wishes for nothing, his wife is quite a different story. She has a wish - and another, then another, then another - until the poor fisherman is returning daily to get more magic from the fish. With a lovely traditional score by Paul Carrol Binkley and hilarious audience participation, this wonderful little play is a treat for families.

It will be presented in-the-round and in the casual atmosphere of NCT's Steine Rehearsal Hall, right up close to three of Nashville's finest actors!

As you sleep, the citizens of the Land of Nocturno busily prepare for the next day. Iris, the Finder of Lost Things, lives in this land among the Flower Painters, Bug Sculptors, Thunder Bottlers and Leaf Monitors until one day she is whisked away by the enigmatic Mr. Matternot against her will to the Island of the Greatest Goods. She is placed in their collection of the “Best of the Best Things,” and so that she will not be sad, all of her memories are taken from her except for one. Compelled by that lonely memory – a still-life picture of a table, vase, iris and three chairs – this determined Finder of Lost Things will find herself, her father, and her way back home. Like the play’s heroine, you will never forget the simple beauty of Still Life With Iris.

Written by Steven Dietz. Enjoyed by all ages.

Come “look in” at what happens before the curtain goes up. Walk right into the private world of rehearsal and grab a snack. Meet the actors, get to know the creative staff, and view an excerpt of the performance at the Tennessee Repertory Theatre’s Rehearsal Hall.

Glengarry Glenn Ross is a scalding comedy-drama that took Broadway and London by storm when it opened in 1984, and garnered a Tony nomination for best play. In the first act, the salesmen vie for position as they gulp their cocktails in the local Chinese restaurant. The second act shifts to the office where the promising Glengarry Glen Ross leads have been filched. Mamet’s not-so-subtle reflection on how bad things happen when vulnerable people are reduced to targets by unscrupulous sharks unfortunately still resonates today. Cast: David Alford, Brian Russell, David Compton, Eric Pasto-Crosby, Henry Haggard, Chris Strand, and Kamal Bolden.

Come "look in" at what happens before the curtain goes up. Walk right into the private world of rehearsal and grab a snack. Meet the director, get to know the creative staff, and view an excerpt of a rehearsal.

Producing Artistic Director, Rene Copeland, says “I don’t think there’s better, more believable, more truthful dialogue and characters than what this play brings to the stage, and you will be amazed by what you see.”

Cast: Erin Whited, Shane Bridges, Jamie Farmer, Peggy Walton-Walker, Andy Kanies.
