Rivers and Spires Festival is a three day outdoor event in Historic Downtown Clarksville. It features a night of patriotic tribute to military heroes, five stages of entertainment, an International Streetfest, Kidz Zone, Jazz 'N Wine area, car shows, parades, and more. Last year, an estimated 30,000 enjoyed the music, great outdoors, food and people watching.

The festival started in 2003 as a tribute to the returning soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Since then, it has continued to follow this heritage, with special tributes for the many soldiers from nearby Fort Campbell deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Rivers and Spires Festival is produced by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

In 1999 a holiday tradition began in Clarksville. That tradition is Christmas on the Cumberland at the McGregor Park RiverWalk. The RiverWalk will be transformed once again into a winter wonderland for the 9th Annual Christmas on the Cumberland event. The theme for this year's event is The Spirit of Christmas. Christmas on the Cumberland is truly an experience to be treasured by the young and young-at-heart. Children of all ages are often captivated by scenes like Toyland with Santa's workshop, the snow skiing elves, and two tunnels of dancing lights. Christmas on the Cumberland stretches a total of seven-tenths of a mile. Come to The McGregor Park RiverWalk and enjoy The Spirit of Christmas!

The Interfaith Dental Clinic is proud to announce the date of our 2009 Spring Gala, Soiree for Smiles!

The event will be held on March 28, 2009 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This year's event, chaired by Mrs. Kathy Reynolds, promises to be an evening full of elegance and excitement. The event will include cocktails, a gourmet dinner, live auction, mystery boxes and dancing. All proceeds from the gala will benefit the Interfaith Dental Clinic, a non-profit organization founded to restore, protect and improve the oral health of uninsured low-income, employed persons, their children and the elderly in the greater Nashville area through access to affordable quality dental care, oral disease prevention services and oral health education. The Interfaith dental clinic provided over $2,000,000 in patient services in 2007-2008 and recorded over 7,043 patient visits. The clinic relies on the generous donations of individuals, churches and foundations to subsidize the cost of delivering this care.

The Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Jules de Balincourt, a retrospective exhibition of works by the renowned New York-based artist, curated by Joseph Whitt. The work of Jules de Balincourt straddles a difficult line between the raw necessity of folk art and an unexpected mastery of abstraction's compositional complexities. The French-born, California-raised artist was recently dubbed by Artforum International magazine as "one of the most challenging painters working today." Drawing from several important private collections, this exhibition will present an overview of de Balincourt's artistic practice from 2002 to today.

Lecture: Jules de Balincourt will present a lecture about his work, Wednesday, October 22 , 7:00pm in Room 103 of Wilson Hall on the Vanderbilt campus.

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 23, 5:00pm-7:00pm

The singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, has a pompadour and thick sideburns; he wears gaudy gold costumes and speaks in a rugged voice. Come see what happens to Conrad and where his journey takes him.

A mystery writer rents a New England house that is the rendezvous point for some jewel thieves. The focal point of the set is the closet which opens into a living room and a library. A body found in the closet promptly disappears only to be succeeded by another. The hunt for the jewels reaches a climax at two A.M. when four couples unknown to each other turn up to search. Not since the days of Mack Sennett has there been such an hilarious series of entrances and exits.

After a six day honeymoon a spanking new lawyer, who has just won his first case 6 cents in damages, and his young bride, who is as pretty and addled as they come, move into the new, high rent apartment that she has chosen for them. But the difficulty is, in order to enjoy the charming character of this apartment, one has to climb six wheezing flights. And the apartment is absolutely bare of furniture, the paint job came out all wrong, the skylight leaks snow, there isn't room for a double bed, and an outlandish gourmet who lives in a loft on the roof uses it and the window ledge as the only access to his padlocked premises. The situation is enough to break the heart and burst the lungs of any stylish young lawyer; and indeed it does, on the night he flatly refuses to join his wife in a barefoot walk through the snow in the park. She kicks him out, but he comes back not for reconciliation, but because he figures that since he's paying the rent she should be the one to go.

Richter Gallery is pleased to bring this important artist and exhibition to Nashville. In his forward to Jazz, Giants and Journeys: The Photography of Herman Leonard, Quincy Jones, wrote, "When people think of jazz, their mental picture is likely one of Herman's." In addition to the internationally known Jazz photographs, this exhibit will also feature Herman Leonard's rarely seen fashion work and behind-the-scenes photographs of such legends as Dizzy Gillespie, Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday. "I wanted to do with light what artists do with a line sketch, show the whole character," said Herman in an interview with Departures Magazine. And that is what Herman has done over his entire lifetime and continues to do at the age of 85. He elevated music photography into an art form. His use of lighting, atmosphere and a spirituality of sorts cannot be found elsewhere. Therefore it is only fitting that Herman will be presented with the Lucie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Portraiture in October of this year.

If there was one thing that Jack Daniel was known for almost as much as making Tennessee Whiskey, it was entertaining. And no doubt about it, Mr. Jack would have been proud to host a few gatherings at the Jack Daniel's Barbecue Pavilion. Opened in the spring of 2004, Barbecue Hill hosts private events as well as weekly luncheons known as Noon Time on Barbecue Hill. The open-air pavilion offers a spectacular view of the Jack Daniel's Hollow and the town of Lynchburg, Tennessee. And it's tailor-made for good southern cooking and old-fashioned fun.

Noon Time on Barbecue Hill is held each Friday from June through September. The menu includes sumptuous barbecue chicken and tangy pulled pork, creamy coleslaw, homemade potato salad, bubbling baked beans, hot homemade cornbread, tipsy baked apples, Jack Daniel's special chocolate-pecan pie, and home-brewed tea, coffee and lemonade. You’ll enjoy listening to live music performed by local artists as well as playing a game known as bung toss (each guest receives a branded bung!). One thing’s for sure: You’ll never get bored at Barbecue Hill.

Helpful Information: Reservations are required and must be made by Noon Thursday. Check in at the Visitor Center courtyard by 10:30am to pick up your tickets. We will shuttle you to the pavilion on our bus. No alcoholic beverages are served and all ages are welcome.

The Lipscomb University Theater Program presents Shorts!, a collection of six short contemporary plays directed by students and theater faculty in Shamblin Theatre on the Lipscomb campus. The six plays, exploring relevant topics such as dating, academia and failed dreams, will provide both serious drama and comedic fun, said theater program director Mike Fernandez.

The works making up Shorts! include: "Sure Thing," directed by Lipscomb freshman Justin Tays; "Misreadings," directed by freshman Ryan Malone; "The Actor's Nightmare," directed by Nashville theater educator Christopher Peck; "The Man Who Couldn't Dance," directed by sophomore Shannon Boyter; "Words Word Words," directed by junior Caitlin Nicholas; and "Baseball is Life," an original work by Peck, directed by Lipscomb theater instructor Deb Holloway.

Shorts! includes a cast of 30 and entertaining monologues will be performed between each play. Seating is limited. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Invisible Children, a charity assisting African children who have been adversely affected by war.

Blair Signature Series: The Blakemore Trio featuring Carolyn Huebl, violin; Felix Wang, cello; Amy Dorfman, piano. The Trio performs Beethoven's delightful and charming First Trio. The work was written in 1795 while the master was still under Haydn's influence, yet it is a landmark in establishing an equal relationship between the three instruments. The program includes Arensky's Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 32, featuring eloquent and soaring melodies and Russian lyricism and elegance. Sponsored by Delphine and Ken Roberts in memory of David K. Wilson.

Spiritual advisor Dr. Justin Tossing of Glenview, Ill., will explain how the mind's awesome power of attraction can uncover and re-program unhealthy subconscious beliefs during an in-depth seminar from 6:30pm-9:00pm on Dec. 11 and 18 (consecutive Thursdays) at the Nashville Center for Spiritual Living.

Unlocking The Secret of Subconscious Attraction will show attendees how a revolutionary technique can redirect one's subconscious thinking to believe that anything is possible. "The powerful fact that 98 percent of our thoughts, emotions, relationships, cravings, behaviors, fears, and health are controlled by the subconscious explains how our lives end up falling short of our conscious dreams and desires," Tossing said. "Anyone wishing to use the mind's awesome power of attraction can uncover and re-program subconscious beliefs with a simple powerful technique, appropriately called Subconscious Attraction Technique."
