    The Cookeville Community Band, “The Sound of the Cumberland,” was formed in 2002. Joe Hermann, Tennessee Tech University director of bands and professor of Music, is music director and conductor for the band, which consists of public school band directors, college professors, college and high school students and local musicians, both active and retired, who love to play the great wind band music.     The Cookeville Community Band, “The Sound of the Cumberland,” was formed in 2002. Joe Hermann, Tennessee Tech University director of bands and professor of Music, is music director and conductor for the band, which consists of public school band directors, college professors, college and high school students and local musicians, both active and retired, who love to play the great wind band music. Members of the ensemble come from the entire Upper Cumberland area. Each year, the band presents a Summer Concert Series, consisting of performances every other Monday evening from Memorial Day through mid to late July.
