The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson

Since The Hermitage opened as a museum in 1889 nearly 15 million people have crossed its threshold. At the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center, you purchase your tickets and can watch a fifteen minute introductory film on Andrew Jackson and The Hermitage. While at the Center be sure to view the exhibits on Jackson and The Hermitage and explore the gallery's changing exhibits. The Hermitage Museum Store and Garden Gate Cafe are also located in the Center. The Hermitage mansion has been meticulously restored to its 1837 appearance and today looks much as it did when Andrew Jackson returned to it after finishing his second term as President. When you arrive at the Hermitage mansion costumed historical interpreters greet you and prepare you for your tour. Inside historical interpreters stationed throughout the house tell you about Jackson, his family, and his home and answer any questions you have. Self-guided tours of The Hermitage grounds are also available and have much to offer including the Hermitage garden, Jackson's tomb, and the Beyond the Mansion tour of sites related to slavery, farming, and nature at The Hermitage.

Hours: Monday-Sunday 8:30am-5:00pm (April 1-October 15), and 9:00am-4:30pm (October 16-March 31). The Hermitage is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the third week in January.

Price: $17/Adult, $14/Seniors, $11/Students(13-18), $7/Children(6-12), Free/Under 5.

    07/01/09- Ongoing	Tulip Grove Mansion Guided Tour The Hermitage Tulip Grove Mansion Guided Tour Presented by The Hermitage at The Hermitage July 1, 2009 - Ongoing Originally the home of Jackson's protege, Andrew Jackson Donelson, Tulip Grove's private ownership was longer and more varied than the Hermitage mansion. Join a Hermitage interpreter for a tour of one of Tennessee's finest Greek Revival mansions and learn about cotton, cattle, and the Civil War.

The film is one of the final components to a multi-year plan to enhance the guest experience throughout the site. In addition to the film, other enhancements include audio tours, informational signage, touch screen digital signage, on-site brochure, and an interactive website (coming soon!)       I have attended each of the functions during Black History Month and have enjoyed each and every one to the fullest. There is no way I can point out which segment I have enjoyed the most. My only regret is that so many people have missed out on these outstanding opportunities for learning. Thanks to all of you who made this happen. Collapse
