Hohenwald Arts Council

The Hohenwald Arts Council is a new organization that showcases the work of local artists. Catch a glimpse of the work of artists who work in media from basket weaving to mosaics. In the summer, the Hohenwald Arts Council hosts performances at the Bandstand including "Shakespeare in the Park."

      My husband and I saw the play Sat. night and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The set and costumes are period relevant and the actors, although amature, do an excellent job. I learned much historical information regarding eyewitness accounts about the death and events leading up to the death of Meriweather Lewis that I had never heard before. He is buried and has a monument in his honor at Natchez Trace Park in Lewis County which is named in his honor. If you are a history buff you will thoroughly enjoy this play. Only two nights remaining and seating his limited so don't hesitate to get your tickets. You won't regret it. The play was written by a local resident of Hohenwald, Tony Turnbow, who has done much research on Lewis and his death. He was present at the disinterment of Lewis' body to try to determine if suicide was indeed a possibility back in the 80's. He did an excellent job of collecting information & putting it together in a fashion that is both entertaining & informative. Collapse
