Founded in 1994 by Michael W. Smith, Rocketown is a non-profit outreach for teens, providing personal development opportunities in arts, music, action sports and mentoring programs. Rocketown has helped thousands of teens through free counseling, scholarship programs and development of positive life skills. Rocketown offers some of Nashville’s most unique classes for youth and teens are offered at Rocketown, including courses in video production, art, dance, music production, songwriting and graphic design. The first phase of Rocketown’s new nonprofit entertainment facility in downtown Nashville will open in August 2010 and provide a venue for all ages, including concerts, an indoor skatepark (Sixth Ave. Skatepark) and a coffee bar. The second phase of the facility will feature a larger skatepark, a smaller music venue for kids to develop their performance skills, and a small gymnasium space, which is slated to begin construction in Winter 2011.
