The purpose of the the program is to provide under-represented, under-served, Tennessee artists/entertainers an opportunity to perform during unique arts and healthcare events in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, as well as, other middle Tennessee communities. During comedic, dance, magic, music, and/or visual arts performances at various indoor/outdoor pre-arranged, staged locations, speech-language-hearing screenings and hearing aid battery checks for attendees will occur simultaneously.
The program offers artists who otherwise would not have an opportunity to perform their specialties in a unique venue, allows the audience an opportunity to appreciate new, innovative Tennessee artists, and affords residents speech-language-hearing screening healthcare services in accordance with Title VI Discrimination laws. During 2005, artists presented their talents at Carestone Assisted Living at Brentwood and Rivergate, Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Thompson Lane, Mental Health Cooperative, Inc., Regal Cinemas Hollywood 27, Music City Queen Cruise Ship, and Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center. The same venues plus the Northwest Family YMCA, Rock Harbor Marine/Blue Moon Lagoon Waterfront Café’, Tennessee State University [TSU] Early Learning Center, Draughons Junior College, Office Depot, Chili’s Bar and Grill, Regal Cinemas Opry Mills 20, Sheraton Downtown Nashville Hotel, TSU Dental Clinic, and other unique locations were added during 2006/2007.
The program affords residents services by professionals who are in short supply nationwide in a relatively short period of time; therefore, diminishing waiting for months to receive drastically needed services. Further many insured residents have policies that do not pay for hearing aides. The program will help bridge the gap to a healthy communicating society by providing speech, language, oral motor, swallowing, and hearing intervention to those who have a need.
