Franklin on Foot

For the best possible tour of the town, call up Franklin on Foot and take the Classic Franklin Tour. This 90-minute stroll touches on architecture, Civil War tales, and other history. Franklin on Foot is one of the few walking tour places that offers excursions for children. I Spy Downtown Franklin is aimed at kids 5-12, lasts about one hour, and involves a hands-on approach that combines fun and learning. Kids are not recommended for the Ghosts and Gore Tour, which features the best of downtown Franklin's ghost stories and explores some of the crime from Franklin's past - from rape, murder and prostitution to abortion, bootlegging and murder for hire. Tours usually depart from Landmark Booksellers, 114 E. Main St.

Our most popular daytime tour provides an overview of Franklin's history, including stories about Franklin's founding, the War years and occupation, up to the present time.
    08/09/11- Ongoing	Franklin on Foot Civil War Tour Franklin on Foot Franklin on Foot Civil War Tour Presented by Franklin on Foot at Franklin on Foot August 9, 2011 - Ongoing Commemorate the Civil War Sesquicentennial on our Civil War tour. This two-hour tour explores Franklin's Civil War experience though the eyes of civilians as well as soldiers.
    08/09/11- Ongoing	Franklin on Foot "The Widow of the South" Tour Franklin on Foot Franklin on Foot "The Widow of the South" Tour Presented by Franklin on Foot at Franklin on Foot August 9, 2011 - Ongoing The Widow of the South, written by long-time Franklin resident and Historic Carnton Plantation Association board member Robert Hicks, centers on the life of Carrie McGavock, the mistress of Carnton before, during and after the Civil War. After the hardcover release in September, 2005, the book rose to #5 and spent eight weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list in the fall of 2005.
