Visual Artist - Visual Artist: Mixed Media - Visual Artist: Painting
About the artist:
From my earliest memories, I have loved to create. After loving art all through school and winning 1st place in a citywide art competition in middle school, the emphasis in high school life was to get a practical education. From that time on, art studies were eliminated from formal schooling. I therefore graduated with a degree in Public Relations from Virginia Tech with an education for a “real” job. For years, I have dabbled in all things creative – photography, sewing, embroidery, metal jewelry design, weaving – yes on a loom, liberated quilting, photography and uncountable other crafty and artsy things. I am a fervent lover of textiles, color, and texture. The biggest creative outlet during most of my adult life was knitting. I have worked in 2 knit shops, managing one of them. Knitting and designing many items, one of my patterns is featured in the nationally published book “101 Designer One-Skein Wonders.” Then a shoulder injury halted all knitting. I credit my sweet husband for the return to painting. Knowing a creative outlet was necessary, he purchased her a series of painting classes. The rest is, as they say, history. Since then, I have studied under local artists Paul Proctor, Hazel King, Lee Hamblen, Mildred Jarrett, and Dorsey McHugh. I have taken workshops with Gerald Brommer, Edie Maney and Jan Batts. I have been juried into the Central South Art Exhibition, a national show. Works are currently exhibited at the Artisan Market place in The Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tennessee and at the Tennessee Art League (TAL), where she is an active artist member. I also teach a weekend workshop with award winning artist Jan Batts on exploring your creativity, offered locally at Plaza Art in Nashville. Her work consists of collaged hand painted papers in various still life arrangements. About this journey, I am loved by the Lord who called and created me to be unique. It is His Sovereign Grace that has brought this abundant life.
