robert bruce scott graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in studio art. His first exhibition was held in 1993 in Birmingham, AL. For the next two years he worked as an artist's assistant, exhibit designer, and art instructor, and exhibited his work sporadically at venues around the southeast. His work can be seen in the collections of the First Baptist Church, Nashville, the Vestavia Hills Elementary School, the First Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, and the Homewood Public Library. With the philosophy of, "All you need is an open mind and a tetanus shot", robert bruce scott turns what others might consider rubbish into fine quality artwork. Bruce expresses, "The look and feel of the old and rejected is wonderful and familiar to me. It is said that ours is a 'throwaway' society and I love to gather the bits and pieces, the cast-offs and turn them back into something meaningful". Working with bits of this and that, Bruce gives new identity and meaning to found items. His mixed media boards and paintings consist of old wood, broken glass, rusted metal, and anything else that dares to inspire his imagination. In 1995, robert bruce took a hiatus in creating art due to health reasons. In 1997 he moved to Nashville and soon took up his creative mantle again. He began exhibiting with the Visual Arts Alliance of Nashville and the Tennessee Art Center at Madison. He exhibited regularly with the Plowhaus Artist's Co-op Gallery and once again, at various venues and juried shows around the Southeast. "I enjoy remembering what things once were and then, wondering what they can now be."
