Nashville Ballet Children's Program - Martin Center

Presented by Nashville Ballet at Martin Center for Nashville Ballet

Our dance program for children develops musicality, rhythm, movement skills, coordination, expression and creativity. It also encourages class participation, focus and confidence.

It is perfectly suited for children 2 to 6 years old. All children's program classes are open to boys and girls.

Faculty members use the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus as a template for their instruction, which provides a solid foundation for students moving into the Academy. Children's Program classes create a nurturing environment that enables each child to begin a lifelong love for dance.

All classes meet once per week and are offered at The Martin Center for Nashville Ballet and the School of Nashville Ballet Brentwood Campus.

Tennessee Arts Commission to host Create2012 at MTSU

Presented by Tennessee Arts Commission at Middle Tennessee State University

The Tennessee Arts Commission will host the second annual Create2012: Creativity in Education Institute, July 15 -18, 2012, at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

Create2012, produced in partnership with the College of Education at Middle Tennessee State University, will focus on increasing creativity and collaboration in Tennessee schools. Sessions will be offered for K-12 classroom teachers, arts specialists, teaching artists, special education, and resource teachers as well as principals and superintendents. “Our first institute was highly successful, and we welcomed 400 participants from Tennessee and seven other states,” said Rich Boyd, executive director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “Before the first event concluded, participants were asking for a repeat in 2012.” The Creativity in Education Institute emerged from the Commission’s highly successful Value Plus Schools initiative, an arts integration model with multi-year funding from the U.S. Department of Education.  MTSU Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Lana Seivers, former Tennessee Commissioner of Education, added, “The College of Education welcomes the opportunity to work with our partners to
provide professional development for educators from across the state. We are extremely pleased to be a part of this effort.”

Wisdom House at Scarritt-Bennett's Essential Conversations Series

Presented by Scarritt-Bennett Center at Scarritt-Bennett Center

Wisdom House, the interfaith educational center of Scarritt-Bennett, will present Essential Conversations, an informal spiritual discussion and luncheon series, on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 11:30am-1:00pm. This increasingly popular series was first presented in the spring and fall of 2011. As a result of the popularity, the 2012 schedule includes additional dates.

Essential Conversations builds our spiritual vocabulary, with each luncheon focusing on a specific word or aspect of spiritual living. Our goal is to explore the multiple meanings of the words we study and the many ways in which we live these aspects of spirituality in our daily lives. There is no teacher, guide, or guru—just neighbors gathering over food to share the wisdom they’ve found and their search for more. Here are the themes we will explore when Essential Conversations returns in 2012.
