Kimberly Brown

Aspiring to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health, Kimberly has worked in a variety of capacities in mental health. A gifted innovator and consultant, she remains committed to meeting her company's tagline of "Helping Others See the Potential Within". An out-of-the-box thinker, Kimberly's initiatives are born out of necessity, developing solutions to fit existing needs. The children's self help book "Beautiful Like Me!" was created while Kimberly worked toward her undergraduate degree in Studio Art at Tennessee State University. She worked with girls living in privilege or poverty and despite cultural and socioeconomic differences, all of the girls struggled to love themselves. The coloring and activity book encourages healthy self esteem and cultural sensitivity. It is received widely by community organizations, schools and parents looking to create meaningful change in the lives of their children. While completing graduate studies in Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy, Kimberly worked as a clinical intern, therapist and consultant. She worked alongside social workers, psychiatrists and educators to provide comprehensive care for mental health consumers. . Notable accomplishments include integrating art therapy into existing community mental health centers' offerings, providing fundraising opportunities for nonprofits and aligning with organizations committed to improving the lives of people struggling with mental illness. Kimberly has worked with businesses and organizations such as Voyage by JourneyPure, Tennessee State University, The Harpeth Hall School, YWCA, Falcon Feather Fibers Studio, Boys & Girls Club of Franklin/Williamson County, Meharry Medical College, Girls Inc. Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, The King's Daughters School, and more. Fox Head Art is the art collective founded by Maggie Brown-Dean. Maggie grew up in Mississippi with a penchant for making music and daydreaming. Growing up in the world of theatre and opera, Maggie developed a love of colorful costumes and human expression. Her love of all things whimsical and dramatic embellishes her works. To her, art should reflect life, in both its darkness and light. Maggie holds a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism/Public Relations from the University of Mississippi and a M.A. in Arts Administration from Savannah College of Art and Design. Michael Cooper

I am in my 25th year of painting murals professionally. My mission as an artist is to enrich the experience of public spaces through the creative and imaginative use of color, texture and storytelling, enhanced with whimsical applications of trompe l’oeil. I believe that public art, as well as art in public spaces, has the power to create a connection to the people it touches. My projects have ranged from painting small residential rooms to trompe l’oeil designs on multi-story buildings, to creating faux stone finishes on miles of highway retaining walls. Budgets have run from hundreds of dollars to just under a million. I am extremely comfortable working with project architects and designers, understanding the concerns and limitations of their professions. I am just as relaxed at working in a pristine museum-quality space as I am working on buildings in the construction phase. And I truly love working with the public!

Diamonds are stones of spiritual, physical, and psychic sight. They are used to see the unknown, reach visionary states in meditation, and see the best course of action. Diamonds reflect all colors of the rainbow and are often used to connect the link between heart and higher consciousness. It is also a symbol of unity and commitment. Our individual and joint creative process echoes the symbolism associated with the diamond. Yvette Renée and Mark not only create art from a spiritual connection, but both hold fine art degrees from Watkins College of Art & Design and The University of Tennessee. Combined, they have over 40 years of experience in various areas of the arts including painting, stained glass, metal sculpture design, and teaching as well as completing artist residencies throughout the state of Tennessee. Both are natives of Nashville and currently live and create here in Hendersonville, TN.

Born and raised in Nashville, TN, I was surrounded by art from an early age. My mother is a painter and has always encouraged my artistic endeavors. By the time I reached high school, I knew that art was my true calling. I spent two years studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received a BFA from the University of Tennessee in 1994. After college, I began my career as a graphic designer and art director, working with some of the most talented creative groups in Nashville such as Buddy Jackson (Jackson Design) and Bill Barnes (Barnes & Company), both of whom are also accomplished fine artists. My years spent developing and refining my creative talents then culminated in my decision to pursue painting full time in 2005. I spent a year participating in fine art festivals throughout the Southeast, building relationships with other working artists while continuing to refine my craft as a painter. I have a deep drive to create and I am constantly exploring new possibilities and forms of artistic expression. Long before brush touches canvas, I explore ideas that grow into sketches. From selection of subject matter, choice of medium and preparation of the surface, to decisions on final treatments, I enjoy every step of the creative process. Working primarily in oil, but occasionally incorporating a mixed media process to create a more tactile effect, my painting style is one of a constant exploration and journey. Whether it be a landscape or an abstract composition, the enjoyment of painting is always a great experience for me as a mostly self-taught artist. My paintings are a mixture of objects and environments that create a truly unique composition. I create places and moods that invite the viewer into the work and allow them to form their own relationship to it. My current series of paintings are built using a mixed media approach, incorporating craft paper sewn together with a thick hemp twine to form the foundation. I then apply the oil paint using a glazing method I learned years ago. These works are often non-representaional and are born out of my ongoing interest in abstract expressionism. More recently I have begun a new series incorporating my love of guitars. Each painting begins with creating a stencil using actual intstuments, so every one is to scale. I like to think of them as “Instrument Portraits”.

Jessica Saterstrom Eichman is an artist who works and lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Her career in graphic design has given her a love of visual composition, and an awareness of the communicative power of shape, line, and color. These design elements took on new life when she fell in love with painting. She is fascinated by the narratives and glimpses of truth that emerge from unplanned paintings. A native of Natchez, Mississippi, Jessica earned degrees in Art and French before living and working in Paris, France; Corvallis, Oregon; and Boston, Massachusetts. She began her career in graphic design in 1996 and launched her freelance business, Glass Egg Graphic Design, in 2004. Her 2012 design for a public art sculpture, “City Irises,” selected as a winner by Nashville Metro Arts Council, was cast in steel and installed in Nashville’s Hermitage Park. Jessica’s works have been shown in numerous group and solo art exhibitions, where she has won awards for her paintings. Her work can be found in private collections across the country and internationally. Jessica lives in Nashville with her husband and their two sons.

Leslie Haines

Leslie Haines is currently an Associate Professor of Visual Communication in the School of Journalism at MTSU. Prior to this position, she chaired Graphic Design programs at The Art Institute of Tennessee-Nashville and Watkins College of Art & Design. She received an MFA in Graphic Design from Marywood University and an MA in Advertising Design from Syracuse University. Ms. Haines created the design for the new Tennessee arts license plate which is integral in supporting the arts all across the state. In addition, two of her hat designs are currently selling at over 200 Target stores across the country. Leslie Haines has over twenty years of experience in the fields of graphic design and advertising, and is now applying her skill sets to creating original imagery in the form of digital collage.

Buist E Hardison The creator of the Five Little Shorties Attended Fisk University received B.A in Fine art 1971; attend Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture 1969 and 1970. Tennessess State University BA in Social Work. . He had his first one man show at the Fisk Carl Van Vetch Galley at the age of 16. Mr. Hardison taught at The Children's Art Carnival, in New York City, Rutgers University New Brunswick, NJ and the Fisk University Art Department. Mr. Hardison has shown at numerous galleries throughout the south and has shown at Studio Museum of Harlem in New York City. Mr. Hardison also worked as a set and prop designer for the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville (CAAN) production. Mr. Hardison began creating characters and writing stories for his two children. Mr. Hardison is the father of two children Raven, and Arion, Mr. Hardison works for Metro Social Service, and studies martial arts. LENA ARICE LUCAS Artist Statement: “My abstract paintings strive to express the spiritual challenges one faces - and transcends - while traveling through life toward the ultimate goal of realizing one’s full potential as soul. As personal journeys and life’s challenges take place via life experiences in the physical realm, so does a parallel inner movement and growth toward ‘cosmic consciousness’ take place within spiritual realms. Those inner travels are represented by my abstract paintings. I also paint naturalistic subjects as a form of meditation. My abstract clay sculptures can serve as solid symbols of that same spiritual concept described above, or can deal with relationships between two souls, and how they assist one another in life. I enjoy sculpting naturalistic subjects, too. I think of my wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery vessels as possessing a ceremonial energy. Inspired by - though quite different from - ancient Chinese bronze vessels I saw as a young woman. My hand-built ones make me imagine a sacred purpose they may be intended for. The more structured wheel-thrown jars have automatic writing of symbols on the surfaces that I imagine as a narration or description of what is contained within. I reside and paint outside of Nashville, in the country, where I live amidst the nature that inspires my work. I paint semi-abstracted paintings of horses and birds as well as figurative work too. Since moving back to Tennessee in 2008, I've had a solo show at the Parthenon Musuem entitled, "Women in Mythology," a solo show at Tinney Contemporary entitled, "Endangered Species, Nature in the Balance," which benefited the Land Trust for TN, and was the official Steeplechase artist for 2012 and had a show at Belle Meade Plantation called, "New Equine Art." The Midwest was the place I called home until my mid-twenties. Growing up in Dodge City, Kansas, with its simple beauty and vast openness, provided expansive spaces for my childhood imagination to explore. Rarely are there structures or rigid lines in my work. Instead, my desire is to create a surreal and organic natural setting to connect the viewer to the peace I find in solitude -- then and now. The surreal and serene are overarching themes in my art, working together to find harmony. I use texture and color to capture the imagination of my heart on canvas. My creative process is as varied and nonuniform as the images I depict and the color schemes are as diverse as the subject matter. Sometimes they are vibrant and loud and other times they are soft and subdued. Painting often feels like a dream to me. Many times I have looked at one of my paintings and wondered where it came from because my hands couldn’t remember creating it. Time stands still and moves so fast at the same moment, and I carry the feeling of each painting with me always. I complement my own artistic skill with that of my husband's (Matt Moody). Much of my current work is inspired by Matt's very evocative original songs. I see the painting as I listen to the song and then it unfolds on a canvas. When I display my "song paintings" they are hung with a headset that plays the song MP3 and a lyric sheet for the viewer so they can see and hear the piece of art. I guess you could say they are our children.

Theresa Andrawis Plummer was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1979. She was raised in Saudi Arabia until her family moved back to their homeland. Theresa’s family spent every vacation traveling and exploring the world, observing nature, architecture, art, and people, all the while photographing every inspiration. Theresa’s paintings, photography and designs always convey the messages and images she was exposed to growing up. Theresa Andrawis Plummer is an Egyptian-American; artist, architect, designer and educator, she has an enormous interest in cultural architecture and art, She’s a very light-hearted outgoing person who craves to teach as well as to always learn. In 2011, Theresa received her Master’s in Science of Architecture, and began a teaching career in the New School of Architecture & Design assistant in subjects such as environmental psychology, urban design, urban history, cultural design, and art. Theresa has realized that teaching is as much a passion to her as art is, and she continues to pursue both. She has now moved to Tallahassee and is eager to show others how to create their own master pieces. Theresa has taught art to children as young as 4 years old and adults as young at heart as 50.

Rita Schaefer Jones, has many talents. She is the bass player in the band Lonnie Jones & Hard Drive. She has been playing bluegrass music/ folk music from the age of 12. She has worked at Silver Dollar City in the entertainment department for 3 seasons. She now lives in the Nashville area and plays bass and fiddle. She also is a film maker plus paints in acrylic, pastels, and mixed media.

Christa Schoenbrodt, owner/art director/designer of Studio Haus, brings insight from over 20 years of experience in graphic design and art direction. After working in various design studios and ad agencies in Louisiana and Tennessee, even winning her first ADDY while in college, she started Studio Haus in 1996. Over the years, Studio Haus has been awarded graphic design and illustration contracts with clients ranging from corporate to book publishing to non-profits. Her graphic design portfolio includes a diversity of projects like large and small business identity development, book covers, music and product packaging, entire marketing campaigns, and even illustration. Each project brings fresh material for a new perspective and another opportunity to bridge a connection between businesses and their customers. Schoenbrodt’s inspiration comes from listening closely and asking the right questions. As a visual artist with a lifetime of experimentation with mediums, her personal artwork has ranged from most everything she's come into contact with such as drawing, painting, printmaking, paper arts, mosaic, sculpture, and of course the ever popular mixed media. Most recently she has been experimenting with paper lanterns that are more sculptural. Her curiosity is endless, even with the occasional creative block. Life without art for her is not an option.
