Born in India and raised in Nashville, singer/songwriter [Lagnajita] is heavily influenced by her vibrant roots and her Western upbringing. Adopting her varying artistic abilities from her talented parents, she has been wired in the arts from a very young age, singing and writing as long as she can remember. She has won several writing and art competitions from early childhood, and even has publications in creative writing and songwriting. However, it wasn't until she picked up the guitar at age 7 that she began to realize how she could communicate through her music in bigger ways. From then on, she continued to pursue her music by learning fiddle, piano, ukulele, and mandolin. Inspired by equally precocious connoisseurs like Bob Dylan, Cat Power, and Taylor Swift, her eloquent lyrics, vibrant guitar, and expressive voice surpasses her considerable youth. With the meeting of her producer at age 15 during a musical summer camp, she was offered the chance to write and record an album. Two years later, [Lagnajita], now only 17, with the release of her 2014 debut album Orange EP, a sincere, poignant, and emotional blend of warm indie-folk, invokes names such as Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Brandi Carlile, and Feist.
Along with her musical ventures, [lagnajita] participate in several other art-related activites. Apart from her music, she is also an avid poet, being named Nashville's first ever Youth Poet Laureate in 2015, and receiving a publishing deal from Penmanship Books, and earning opportunities to speak about and read poetry in several public events, including Artober and the Mayor's Inauguration.
[lagnajita] also takes part in community theater, being involved in the Real Life Players since 2013, the only nonprofit, teen owned and operated theater company in the country, with all ticket sales going to charity.
[lagnajita] has a natural inclination for visual arts, photography, and filmmaking as well, placing in a international filmmaking competition in 2013, hosted by the Galicia Jewish Museum in Poland. She has also won the Nashville Public Library Nashville Reads competition in 2013 for painting. Besides this, she has also been engaged in planning, performing, and directing community cultural programs.
