As a Southern boy from Jonesboro, Arkansas, Marcus Whybrew began singing in churches at age three as intermission entertainment for a gospel group and hasn’t stopped since. When he received his first guitar as a gift from his grandparents it inspired him to begin writing and playing original songs. From singing the national anthem for the Memphis Redbirds and placing 2nd in the Texaco County Showdown to winning vocal competitions all over Arkansas, Marcus has secured his future in the music scene. Influenced by the classic sounds of Johnny Cash to the more contemporary vibe of Chris Young, Marcus has developed a sound that is truly unique and refreshing. Marcus is a true entertainer who continues to electrify crowds in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi with his distinctive and exciting stage presence. His surprising vocal range will captivate listeners and have them coming back for more. Source: Puckett's [less-]

Widely recognized as the first openly gay country music album—and cited as such even by Nashville institutions like the Country Music Hall of Fame and CMT—the landmark self-titled 1973 LP by Lavender Country stands as nothing less than an artifact of courage, a sonic political protest document of enormous power, clarity, and grace. At once a scathing indictment of the injustices perpetrated on the homosexual community, a proud proclamation of gay identity, and a love letter of bracing intimacy and eroticism, the album radically appropriates the signifiers of the conservative country genre, queering its heteronormative vocabulary into a deeply personal language. Songwriter, singer, and guitarist Patrick Haggerty, a fearless first-generation gay liberation activist and artist, seasons his songs with Yippie deviousness; in the manner of the Cockettes, the laughs both sharpen and sweeten the impact. To our ears the inimitable aesthetics and glimpses of cockeyed humor recall some ethereal psych-folk nexus of the Flatlanders and the Holy Modal Rounders as much as any standard country and western forebears, rendering the biting poetry in an even more otherworldly and timeless light. Many musicians claim that they “grew up in the church,” but for Robert Randolph that is literally the case. The renowned pedal steel guitarist, vocalist and songwriter led such a cloistered childhood and adolescence that he heard no secular music while growing up. If it wasn’t being played inside of the House of God Church in Orange, New Jersey—quite often by Robert and members of his own family, who upheld a long but little known gospel music tradition called sacred steel—Randolph simply didn’t know it existed. Which makes it all the more remarkable that the leader of Robert Randolph and the Family Band—whose label debut for Sony Masterworks, Got Soul, will be released on Feb. 17, 2017—is today an inspiration to the likes of Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana and Derek Trucks, all of whom have played with him and studied his technique. It wasn’t until he was out of his teens that Randolph broke away from the confines of his social and musical conditioning and discovered rock, funk, soul, jazz and the jam band scene, soon forging his own sound by fusing elements of those genres. Jazz rocker (SFWeekly) singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, Ben Graves, represents an eclectic history of musical experience; in high school in rural Tennessee he was a neo-folk/classical guitarist, a jazz saxophonist, and the lead singer in a band that would become the platinum-selling hard rock outfit Fuel. From 1996 to 2003, he honed his craft, recording 2 original Cds and performing his original music in many of the Bay Area’s hippest venues: the Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, Cafe du Nord, the Hotel Utah, Freight and Salvage, Sweetwater, and many others. In 2003, he moved to Nashville, where he worked as a sideman with country artists Rebecca Lynn Howard, James Otto, Amy Dalley, and others. He spent most of 2005 doing administrative work for the New York Philharmonic in Manhattan and taking part in the New York scene before returning to Nashville, where he remains active as a session musician, performing songwriter, sideman, and educator. Steve Poltz’s rich and colorful legacy is the stuff of legend, but it is his distinctive style of songwriting that has caused the world to offer up its stages, clubs, and alleys. Poltz’ sound is entirely unique- from his inhuman fingerstyle techniques to the inimitable melodies that roll from his guitar like cool waterfalls, you know a Poltz song as soon as you hear it. To see Steve to perform live is one of the most entertaining shows a human could ever see. Frenzied, aggressive, hilarious, and heartbreakingly sincere, his live performances have become bona fide events, with sub-cultures popping up all over the globe to entice him to come and tour. As relentless as he is in concert, he is also the guy who famously co-wrote the timeless ballad “You Were Meant For Me” with platinum-selling songwriter Jewel. [less-]

The TIME JUMPERS are an award winning Western Swing band from Nashville, Tennessee, with two awards from the Association of Western Artists, one from the Western Music Association and two Grammy nominations! This group of Nashville's studio elite has evolved from casual jam sessions at the Grand Ole Opry to performing on the main stage, and becoming THE Monday night destination in Nashville. Their individual recording and performing credits cover virtually the entire history of country music, ranging from Slim Whitman to Carrie Underwood, and their members have recorded extensively with artists in other genres as well, from Barbra Streisand to Megadeth. Their combination of tight arrangements, soulful singers, brilliant soloists, and an irresistibly swinging rhythm section have packed their weekly performances at Nashville's legendary Station Inn for close to ten years, drawing not only their peers, such as fellow recording musicians Glen Worf, Brent Mason, Reggie Young, Bob Moore and countless others, but an amazingly diverse array of stars, including Jimmy Dean, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Jimmy Buffet, Reba McEntire, Robert Plant, BJ Thomas, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Luna Halo, Norah Jones, John Rich, Robben Ford, Ronnie Dunn, Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap and Kelly Clarkson. Rob Harris is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter. His latest release, Winnebago, appears on Wayne Manor Records and was produced by Michael Farren (Pocket Full of Rocks). It features nine original songs brought to life by musicians who have recorded and toured with Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, Peter Frampton, Ricky Skaggs and Michael W. Smith. As a staff writer for Identical Entertainment, Rob collaborated with the ACM Award-winning country duo, Joey+Rory, by arranging an acoustic waltz version of the rock anthem, Free Bird, which appeared on Joey+Rory's debut CD on Vanguard/Sugar Hill Records. For two years, he played guitar for Joey Feek. His songs have been recorded by Tim Hicks, The Lovelocks, Jess Moskaluke, Tonja Rose, Brittany Brodie, Ivan Parker, Back Home, Karen Peck and a variety of indie artists. Garth Brooks describes Rob’s song, “How to Bend” as, “…a beautiful sentiment, a timeless message and a great song.” His music is family friendly, filled with real life and sprinkled with humor. He performs concerts throughout the US, has opened shows for Grammy Award-winning and Dove Award-winning artists and is a frequent performer at Nashville-area songwriter venues such as Puckett’s Grocery and the world famous, Bluebird Café (as featured on ABC’s, Nashville). While he is a songwriter at heart, he also loves playing great cover songs. If you hear him at a restaurant or house concert, you may hear him perform songs by artists such as James Taylor,  John Denver, Jim Croce, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Foo Fighters, Jackson Browne, Matt Nathanson, The Eagles, Tom Petty, Bob Seger, Train, etc. Source: RobHarrisOnline.com [less-]

The list goes on and on! Source: Submitted [less-]
