2015 Oyster Easter
Oyster Easter will be kicking off springtime in Nashville once again! In its 53rd year, the party returns to Historic Travellers Rest on Saturday, April 4th with some old favorites and new surprises. The fun starts at 1 p.m. and will feature contests, food, music and the infamous competition for Oyster King and Queen.
Started by a group of students at Vanderbilt University in 1962, Oyster Easter is always hosted the day before Easter as Nashville’s unofficial start of spring. Since 1990, it’s been the primary fundraiser for the Community Resource Center (CRC) and has grown to 500+ partygoers.
Tickets for this 21+ event include oysters (lots of oysters), Jambalaya, everyone’s favorite Cajun sides, wine and Blackstone beer. Les Kerr’s Bayou Band will provide live music, as the candidates for Oyster King and Queen do whatever they can to win their titles. Sundresses and seersucker are the styles of the day, and don’t forget your bunny ears!
Royal candidates compete for the crowns by raising money for Community Resource Center, the supply line to the front lines of poverty in middle Tennessee. Candidates are encouraged to beg, barter, and bedazzle their way to the titles of Nashville’s most prominent royalty. The classic battle for shells is back with a new twist. Candidates can earn bonus points for collecting the most oyster shells. Extra points also go to the best oyster can design in the new Crown My Can competition.
