A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Refflecting on Existence

Presented by The Belcourt Theatre at The Belcourt Theatre, Nashville TN

Sep 06 - 08 2015
A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Refflecting on Existence

As with his previous features SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR and YOU, THE LIVING, master Swedish director Roy Andersson returns with another meticulously crafted, dreamlike black comedy. Presented as a series of vignettes, A PIGEON shifts between two loose narrative strands. In one, two hapless novelty salesmen wander around town trying to sell their inventory of vampire fangs and rubber masks; in the other, Charles XII, Sweden’s most bellicose king, reappears in modern times to carry on his series of disastrous defeats. Shifting between nightmare, fantasy, reverie, and even an impromptu musical number, A PIGEON is a dazzling, provocative, and very disturbing critique of our times.
