Join the Grammy-nominated ALIAS Chamber Ensemble as it presents its trademark assortment of eclectic classical offerings. The ensemble’s Fall Concert includes works by Telemann, Ibert, Schoenfield, Heggie, and Matt Walker.
ALIAS’ Fall Concert opens the Grammy-nominated ensemble’s 15th season with its trademark assortment of eclectic classical offerings. The program includes a 18th-century work by G.P. Telemann, to be performed on period instruments; salon music by 20th-century French composer Jacques Ibert for harp, violin and cello; and three pieces from modern composers steeped in American musical traditions. “Café Music”, by pianist and composer Paul Schoenfeld, is a piano trio that evokes the crossover from classical music into the dawn of the jazz era. Jake Heggie’s “Three Folk Songs” are settings of songs brought to North America by immigrants from the British isles. The last is a work by ALIAS cellist and composer Matt Walker, ”Sixes and Sevens”. The work is for the unusual combination of clarinet, marimba, cello and bass, and incorporates jazz styles with modern, off-kilter rhythms.
