ALIAS Chamber Ensemble is pleased to announce the final concert of the 2017/18 season, “Rhythms, Rivers and Roads” – featuring new music composed by Tennessee based composers and inspired by the sights and sounds of Tennessee.
“Tennessee Roads,” written for electric violin and string quartet by Christopher Farrell, takes as its inspiration three scenic highways in Tennessee; the Great River Road in West Tennessee, the Natchez Trace in Middle Tennessee, and Newfound Gap in East Tennessee.
Matt Walker’s “Quartet Out of Time,” written for clarinet, violin, cello and piano, explores different musical styles that are heard in Nashville’s broad-based music scene. It alludes to jazz and blues, folk, rock and gospel.
Celebrated electric violinist Tracy Silverman’s “The Harpeth River,” written for piano trio, explores the changing sounds of the river throughout a day, and his piece for string trio takes the Cumberland as its inspiration.
