An Evening with Don Schlitz and Jelly Roll Johnson
Please note, this event has expired.
At The Bluebird, performers include up-and-coming songwriters along with those whose music is regularly on the charts, country music as well as pop, rock and Contemporary Christian hits.
Don Schlitz was officially inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2017. He is among the most influential and beloved songwriters in the history of country music. His chart-topping songs — among them “The Gambler,” “On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her”, “The Greatest,” and “When You Say Nothing At All” — are touchstones and inspirations. His works have been recorded by Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, The Judds, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Tanya Tucker, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Keith Whitley, Alison Krauss, and many others.
Acclaimed harmonica player Jelly Roll Johnson delivers this emotional tribute to the music of New Orleans with a stellar band featuring Pat Bergeson on guitar, John Jarvis on piano, Charlie Chadwick on bass, and Chris Brown on drums. With classic tunes such as “Basin Street Blues,” “Didn’t He Ramble,” and “St. James Infirmary,” Jelly and the band pay homage to the spirit of New Orleans. A fun romp of Li’l Liza Jane also features Pat on a harmonica solo and Pat and Jelly on bass harp! The album closes with Professor Longhair’s classic song “Tipitina” and Randy Newmans’ moving “Louisiana 1927.”
