Portrait artist Andrea Jacobson’s solo show at the Main Street Gallery during October’s FirstBank First Saturday Art Crawl will include over two dozen of her most recent portrait paintings.
About the work: began these portraits as an exercise to expand her artistic knowledge of light, shadow, contour, and edges. In turn, this led to a deeper understanding of more complex concepts: placement, balance, color, and mark making. Developing these skills has allowed Andrea to explore the human that she is attempting to represent. The face holds mixed and even colliding or conflicting emotions – pleasure tinged with guilt, confidence that belies fear. Each painting is a puzzle that displays extreme realism while simultaneously pushing the bounds of color, texture, and mark making, creating a piece that embodies a love for paint.
About the artist: Andrea Jacobson is an artist living and working in East Nashville. She received a BFA from Ringling College of Art and a MFA from the University of New Hampshire. She has studied in Florence, Italy and has been awarded several grants and residencies.
