Archaeology Day at Travellers Rest
Get hands-on with prehistoric items from the Travellers Rest collection.
This September, in recognition of Tennessee’s Archaeology Awareness Month, Travellers Rest is providing an opportunity for guests to participate in a mock excavation using items from their surface collection. Participants will also get to learn how to properly clean found artifacts. Additionally, guests will get to try to reconstruct a broken item and create a gorget to take home.
The program will follow a small group station structure to ensure guest safety and instruction at each station. If you would like to go through the program with a particular group of people, it is recommended that you arrive together.
• Learn about the first residents of Travellers Rest
• Dig for artifacts from our surface collection in a mock excavation
• Learn how to properly clean found artifacts

Outdoor event, with rain plan. In the event of storms, the program date will be rescheduled and notifications will be made as soon as possible regarding ticket exchanges.
As stewards of the cultural items located at Travellers Rest, please refrain from searching for or picking up any artifacts you might come across outside of the programmed stations while visiting.
