Artist in Residence: Kelsey Smith
Kelsey Smith, the owner of Hilo Studios, is a functional potter and artist native to Middle Tennessee. Kelsey is a lover of all art practices and helping people along their creative journeys. She graduated with her BFA in ceramics from Middle Tennessee State University in 2014. Since then, she has honed her passion for helping others create by teaching at several art education institutions including Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Art Museum, The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, and her own studio. Her work has been in a number of honorable shows and publications including Cummins Station Student exhibits, North South East West: What Grew us, and Murfreesboro Magazine. After years of working as an art educator Kelsey is currently creating functional ceramics full-time in her home studio. You can find her work at Oaklands Mansion, Steadfast Flowers Urban Farm, and at Hilo Studios.
In the Studio: Creativity & Printmaking
March 11 – May 27
Calling creatives of ALL ages! Finding new ways to stay creative can be a challenge. Join Discovery Center each Thursday at 10am as Discovery Center’s Artist in Residence, Kelsey, teaches about finding new ways to unleash and utilize your creative muscles. Each week you will dive into different techniques and skills using printmaking with a special focus on creativity. Activities vary weekly and may include some outdoor exploration, inspiration gathering, and creating indoors in The Studio. Included with admission.

Visit Thursdays from 11am to 3pm to see the Discovery Center’s Artist in Residence during her open studio hours. You’ll find her outdoors or in The Studio. Included with admission.
