“Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges.” Mel Brooks’s relentlessly funny and oh-so politically incorrect take on Hollywood Westerns follows the trail of freed slave-turned-Sheriff Bart (Cleavon Little), who’s installed as sheriff of Rock Ridge under false pretense. With the help of washed-up gunslinger Jim the “Waco Kid” (Gene Wilder), Sheriff Bart must convince the racist townsfolk that he’s their only line of defense against corrupt politicians bent on vacating the town for a new railroad.
