Braison Cyrus was raised in Franklin, TN. He gravitated to music by The Band, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, and Band of Horses. A family move to California in his teens opened his eyes to a very different existence, where he felt very different from the status quo.
Braison explored mediums for storytelling but ultimately, his affinity for stream of consciousness as a means of self-discovery centered him on songwriting. Through friendships and musical camaraderie, Braison is now part of Nashville’s indie-rock collective of artists that value authenticity and loyalty.
In 2018, Braison’s spare and haunting single, “I’ll Never Leave You,” was uploaded to Spotify. The vagabond’s goodbye-for-now flickers like old Super 8 footage, quietly but intensely evocative. It has organically passed over one million streams.
In September 2020, his song “Heart Is Gold” was embraced by Nashville’s Triple A station, Lighting 100 while Relix Magazine debuted the single’s animated video. Shortly after, Cyrus covered Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” for Patagonia’s Public Trust: The Fight For America’s Public Lands documentary, executive produced by Robert Redford and Yvon Choinard. Upon its release, director David Byars stated, “It’s a real tribute to Guthrie’s fierce egalitarian spirit in a time when, much like in his day, the struggle against the injustices of American society has reached a fever pitch.” In November 2020, Braison released “Across The Great Plains,” the first single from his upcoming 2021 album, produced by Austin Jenkins (Coming Home/Leon Bridges) at and Jordan Reed at Castle Recording Studios in Franklin, TN.
