A trio of great acts take the stage at Douglas Corner.
Brenda Carsey is a Los Angeles-based vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Carsey has been performing since the age of five. From choirs, orchestras, and marching bands to national anthem performances to rock, pop, folk, hip hop, and electronic groups (Feral Kizzy, Centuries, La Chilanga Banda), stage shows (Cabaret Versatile), and solo projects (Brenda Carsey & the Awe [currently playing], Side Show, eminent.ruth), there is no stopping Carsey’s passion for music, performance, and creativity. Carsey’s “voice is, in a word, uninhibited. She plays with soulful low notes, a raspy, rock belt, and playful, even childish high notes, sometimes all in the same song. She confidently tackle[s] different genres, too” (Chantel Donnan, Music In Press).
Based out of Long Beach, California, Caught Off Guard is a musical mosaic of alternative and hard rock, with acoustic versatility. Rooting from blues, folk, and rock, COG has developed their own sound, which has left many wondering at the end of their shows of how to define them- leaving many to say, it’s somewhere in the middle of everything.
Luci is the magical result of a spontaneous session between three songwriters. When McKail, Ariana and Ashley got together for the first time on March 12th, 2015, it was in the living room of a North Hollywood apartment with roommates sleeping in the next room over. The moment they sang their first extremely quiet harmony together, they knew this was a musical bond that couldn’t be ignored. That evening they not only decided to continue as a group, but even came up with their name, logo, and first song. Although their sound is singer-songwriter/folk-based, the Luci Ladies have always had a passion for the Blues, Soul, and Jazz, three styles that appear in their writing. Through their combination of genres and individual styles, the result has allowed three independent and stylistically different women to come together to form a unique blend; a blend that embraces their strengths and differences and morphs them all into a cohesive, mainstream sound. They released their first live EP, “Live From 201” in February of 2016 and are currently working on their first studio single, “Sucker For Love.”
