Shannon McCue on vocals and Ryan Sauls on vocals and guitar – came to be as a result of a conversation overheard in a Franklin-area office building. Ryan says, “I’d just moved to town, and I overheard Shannon say she was a singer, and my ears pricked up a little bit. I heard her say she sings mostly older country music, and then I really started to eavesdrop!” Bonded over a shared love of traditional country music and a desire to play the songs they loved no matter the genre, Shannon and Ryan formed Carters Creek South. “We love that style of country music, but our goal is to play any song we really like, and to have a little something for everyone to enjoy,” says Shannon. The more they talked, the more Shannon and Ryan discovered what they had in common: childhoods spent learning music by performing with their families; education at the best music schools; and a desire to perform and entertain, irrespective of labels and expectations. As they realized the strengths each could bring – Shannon’s powerful vocals; Ryan’s inventive guitar and accompaniment – the duo began to envision what was possible. From this set of common experiences, Carters Creek South was born. Embracing the best of popular music without regard to era, genre, or style, Carters Creek South brings a homespun and organic feel to every performance. “We really feel the stripped-down duo format gives us so much flexibility,” says Ryan. “We can do whatever we want.” With a setlist running from today’s most current pop and country songs to the most time-honored country and rock classics, Carters Creek South truly does bring a little something for everybody, and stamps each performance with a unique musicality that brings out the artistry behind each song.
