(POSTPONED) A Raisin in the Sun

This production has been postponed until next season due to concerns over the COVID-19 epidemic. Please note that the poster has not yet been updated to reflect the new dates.

The new production dates will be announced this summer with our 71st Season Announcement. After detailed consideration of the current COVID-19 epidemic, the Circle Players Board of Directors has decided to postpone our production of “A Raisin In The Sun” until next season.

​This decision was not made lightly. Our first and foremost concern is the health, safety and well-being of our patrons, performers, production teams, volunteers and the community. All outstanding original and rescheduled tickets will be refunded, include those included in a season package, unless you have already made prior arrangements with Circle Players. 

​During this difficult and uncertain time, we are thankful to be a part of the Nashville arts community with all of you – our friends, colleagues and patrons. We wish you continued health and look forward to seeing you back at the Looby Theatre in the fall. 

A Raisin in the Sun

The plot revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family: son Walter Lee, his wife Ruth, his sister Beneatha, his son Travis, and matriarch Lena. When her deceased husband’s insurance money comes through, Mama Lena dreams of moving to a new home and a better neighborhood in Chicago. Walter Lee, a chauffeur, has other plans: buying a liquor store and being his own man. Beneatha dreams of medical school. The tensions and prejudice they face form this seminal American drama. The Younger family’s heroic struggle to retain dignity in a harsh and changing world is a searing and timeless document of hope and inspiration.
