Coach Ed Temple Statue Dedication Ceremony

Join Mayor Karl Dean, Coach Ed Temple, and friends and supporters of the legendary track coach on Friday, Aug. 28, to dedicate a statue honoring Temple on the greenway adjacent to First Tennessee Park. The event is free and open to the public.

As the women’s track coach at Tennessee State University from 1953 to 1994, coach of the U.S. women’s Olympic track team in 1960 and 1964, and assistant coach in the U.S. women’s Olympic track team in 1980, Coach Temple ranks among the most impressive leaders in the history of sports both nationally and internationally and is a beloved Nashville figure.

Nationally renowned sports sculptor Brian Hanlon will also be on hand for the dedication, and the donors who contributed to the statue fund will be recognized.
