Benefit Concert w/ Tom Paxton, Jon Vezner & Don Henry

Presented by 202 The Friendship House at World Music Nashville (Store, School & Live Venue), Nashville TN

Sep 09 2017
Benefit Concert w/ Tom Paxton, Jon Vezner & Don Henry

Tom Paxton is a folk legend who wrote hits including Bottle of Wine and The Last Thing On My Mind. He’ll be joined by hit songwriters Jon Vezner (Where’ve You Been) and Don Henry (All Kinds of Kinds) to help alcoholics stay sober.

This intimate concert is a benefit to raise funds for Nashville’s oldest meeting place for people who want to recover from alcoholism. All three of the performers are passionate about helping people with alcoholism find recovery, and are donating their time and talent for this concert. Homemade pie and coffee will be served.

Tom Paxton is a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.  His songs have been widely covered, including modern standards such as “The Last Thing on My Mind”, “Bottle of Wine”, “Whose Garden Was This”, “The Marvelous Toy”, and “Ramblin’ Boy”. Paxton’s songs have been recorded by Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, The Weavers, Judy Collins, Sandy Denny, Joan Baez, Doc Watson, Harry Belafonte, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Seekers, Marianne Faithfull, The Kingston Trio, the Chad Mitchell Trio, John Denver, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, Willie Nelson, Flatt & Scruggs, The Move, The Fireballs.

Jon Vezner’s catalogue of songs reads like a songbook itself, interpreted and recorded by the greats in the business as varied as the songs themselves; artists such as Martina McBride, Janis Ian, John Mellencamp, Nancy Griffith, Faith Hill, Clay Walker, Diamond Rio and Native American recording artist, Bill Miller. Other co-penned songs recorded by Kathy Mattea include “A Few Good Things Remain,” “Time Passes By,” “Whole Lotta Holes,” “Slow Boat,” “Who’s Gonna Know,” “All Roads to the River,” “The Innocent Years,” “Calling My Name,” “Trust Me,” and most recently the touching ballad “Ashes in the Wind.” Singles written by Vezner include “If I Didn’t Love You” by Steve Warriner, “Has Anybody Seen Amy” by John and Audrey Wiggins, “Then What” by Clay Walker, and “You’re Gone” by Diamond Rio.

Grammy Award winner Don Henry’s songs have been recorded by legends like Ray Charles, Patti Page and Conway Twitty, by country crooners likeGene Watson, John Conlee and B.J. Thomas and by hit makers of today like Blake Shelton, Lonestar and Miranda Lambert.
