Considering the Portrait: Contemporary Photography

In this course, students will be introduced to ideas in portrait photography through in-class discussion and studio activities premised on the question: what is a portrait? Ideas introduced in this class and discussion will be applied to studio activities, allowing students to investigate the conceptual aspects of “the portrait” and learn practical tools in producing creative and inventive portraits. Students will produce a portfolio of new work while exploring new concepts in this class. All skill levels welcome. Students should bring their own digital SLR cameras and instruction manuals, SD cards, and have access to digital storage.
