This webinar will discuss the importance of site-sensitive art in local communities and the societal changes that such works can trigger in the specific locality and beyond, especially as these topics relate to the new largescale art installation by the Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama at Fisk University. The webinar will conclude with the premier of a “making of” video of this important installation.

Building on the work from the Fall of 2020l, the EADJ Spring 2021 Program will present a set of vibrant discussions that examine the consequences of social and historical inequities on the southern imaginary, as seen in art from Africa, Latin America, South Europe, South Asia, and the American South. The Spring Program continues to explore the potential for radical collaboration and togetherness across these disparate geographies.

The Engine for Art, Democracy & Justice (EADJ) is a trans-institutional initiative is an ongoing collaboration between Fisk UniversityFrist Art MuseumMillions of Conversations, and Vanderbilt University that explores creative approaches to living together in the South(s).
