An Evening with Jon Meacham. Jon Meacham is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and historian. Mr Meacham will discuss his novel “American Gospel”. Special guest prior to the author is internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter, Batsheva.
An Evening with Jon Meacham. Jon Meacham is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and historian. Mr Meacham will discuss his novel “American Gospel”. Jon Meacham is a renowned presidential historian, contributing editor to the New York Times Book Review, and a contributing editor at TIME Magazine. Mr. Meacham has written on American Presidents including Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Roosevelt and Andrew Jackson. His biography of Jackson, entitled American Lion, won a Pulitzer prize in 2009. His most recent book, Destiny and Power, a New York Times best seller, addresses the life and career of George H.W. Bush. In addition he is the author of Voices in Blood about the Civil Rights movement and American Gospel, which focuses on religion, faith and its impact on the founding of the United States. Mr. Meacham holds a variety of honorary degrees, including an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from the Yale Divinity School. He is currently a distinguished visiting professor at Vanderbilt University and the University of the South. He resides in Nashville and Sewanee with his wife and children.
Batsheva will be the special musical guest prior to the author. Canadian born, internationally renowned concert artist Batsheva will perform as part of West End Synagogue’s 2018 Concert and Cultural Series. Performing in Ladino, Yiddush, Hebrew and English, she will kick off this year’s event on January 14, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at West End Synagogue.
$75/Ticket; includes a dessert reception and book signing after the lecture.
