Family Program: Brushstrokes and Egg Yolks: DIY Egg Tempera Paint
Please note, this event has expired.
Thomas Hart Benton, painter of The Sources of Country Music in the museum’s Rotunda, made his own paints using egg yolks, water, and powdered pigments. In fact, when he received his first mural commission, in 1931, he was so thrilled that he asked to be paid each day in egg yolks. Explore the fun science behind making paints in the tradition of Benton and artists dating back to the European Renaissance. Participants will make their own egg tempera paint to take home. All ages. Instructors will provide guidance. Taylor Swift Education Center.
