Guest Artists | Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet

Presented by Blair School of Music | Vanderbilt University at Vanderbilt University | Blair School of Music | Ingram Hall, Nashville TN

Feb 01 2017
Guest Artists | Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet

Michael Hasel, flute, Andreas Wittmann, oboe, Walter Seyfarth, clarinet, Fergus McWilliam, horn, Marion Reinhard, bassoon

The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet continues to astonish audiences worldwide with their range of expression, their tonal spectrum and their conceptual unity. Indeed many listeners and critics agree that the ensemble has succeeded in virtually redefining the sound of the classic wind quintet. Their repertoire covers not only the entire spectrum of the wind quintet literature but also includes works for enlarged ensemble, i.e. the Sextets of Janáček and Reinecke or the Septets of Hindemith and Koechlin.

This program will include Mozart’s Fantasy in F minor for Clockwork Organ, Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles, Nielsen’s Quintet for Winds, and the American premiere of Kalevi Aho’s Quintet No. 2, composed in 2015 for the quintet.

As part of our ongoing collaborative relationship, Blair is thrilled to again welcome these marvelous artists for a week of master classes, individual instruction and collaborations with our large ensembles.

Presented with gratitude to Mark Dalton for his generous support of the Blair School
