An original play by Gregg D. Garner
In HOMELESS, award-winning Nashville playwright Gregg D. Garner takes an unconventional approach to tackle the ever prevalent issue of homelessness. In this full length, two act drama, he weaves together themes of identity, commitment, and deterioration, including the “analysis paralysis” that isolates individuals in their quest for understanding. The result is a formidable and complex narrative with colorful characters and an innovative plot line.
The creative interpolation of perspective taking and dialogue, plus the impassioned undercurrent for characters to be understood, and to understand themselves, comes into conflict with the questions: Should we integrate all aspects of our personal narrative into a cohesive identity, including the painful or traumatic parts? Or, should we edit out those toxic moments and write for ourselves a new version of our lives, and control who are in the world?
HOMELESS opens on June 9, 7:30pm, at The Arts at Center Street, and will run until June 18 closing with a 3pm afternoon showing. The venue will have a full service bar and snacks. Doors open 45 minutes prior to showtime.
