Honeyboy & Boots

Honeyboy & Boots are a husband/wife, guitar/cello duo playing a blend of old blues and folk covers, country ballads, and originals that are straight from the heart. Drew Blackwell is from the Mississippi town of Macon. Inspired by his uncles and cousins he picked up guitar when he was 13 and later was trained to play black prairie blues by the great Willie King. Courtney grew up in Washington state, at the age of 3 she began lessons in cello with Dr. Wharton, a cello/bass professor at the University of Idaho. In the past 4 years, since moving to the south, she prefers folk, blues, and bluegrass styles and has really refined her skills to allow herself to sing while playing. Drew is a creative lyricist and writes the original songs the group plays, his sound is more old folk and blues, also old country covers from artists like Levon Helm, Jerry Jeff Walker, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and Guy Clark. Courtney sings harmonies and blends the rich cello tones keeping the bass rhythm down and jumps to add sweet harmonic melodies into the mix. Together they have a unique style that is all their own. This husband/wife, guitar/cello duo plays a blend of old blues and folk covers, country ballads, and originals that are straight from the heart. Americana, folk, alt country, blues, all these words describe their sound, which is always changing and growing.
