InsideOut of the Lunch Box: Fisk Jubilee Singers Walk Together Children

Join this special panel discussion and learn from the Fisk Jubilee Singers Musical Director Dr. Paul T. Kwami, Fisk University Executive Vice President Dr. Jens Frederiksen, Walk Together Children film director Jon Royal, and WNPT’s Program Manager Jessica Turk about their vision to bring the concert choirs’ story to life on film.

The event will share excerpts from the film and discuss the rich history of the Fisk Jubilee Singers.

Inspired by the Fisk Jubilee Singers’ 150th Anniversary celebration and encouraged by an opportunity to share the ensemble’s rich artistry and cultural significance beyond Music City, TPAC is working with Nashville Public Television (WNPT) on a new cut of Walk Together Children to be aired on NPT on October 3 and offered nationally to affiliate stations through PBS Plus.

In Walk Together Children: The 150th Anniversary of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, musical director Dr. Paul T. Kwami and his students pay tribute to the original nine members of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, organized as a choral ensemble in 1871 to perform and raise money to support Fisk University. As the current singers explore the personal stories of the trailblazers who paved the way for future generations, they reflect on their roles as students and preservers of the world-renowned choral group’s rich legacy.
