This course is perfect for individuals with little or no beekeeping experience who desire more knowledge in order to proceed with caring for their own honey bee colonies.
The Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary will be offering a beginning beekeeping course that is designed to provide information on how to succeed as a beekeeper. This course is perfect for individuals with little or no beekeeping experience who desire more knowledge in order to proceed with caring for their own honey bee colonies.
Jim Primus and Jean Simpson, practiced beekeepers and beekeeping educators, will conduct a lecture/demonstration course that includes four modules:
- The World of Honey Bees and Beekeeping
- How to Start and Manage Your Colony
- Maladies of the Hive and How to Prevent
- How to Build a Hive and Produce Honey
In addition, a practical module will held at an apiary site the early part of April, 2017 and will cover how to inspect your hive and steps to control and monitor for parasites and pests.
