Jan Cronin Band live at Douglas Corner Cafe
Jan Cronin’s new CD, “Tell Him I Said Hello,” marks the ramping up of a singing career that began when she was a young girl in Washington, DC, and has taken her all around the country and the world. The versatile Nashville vocalist performs frequently with her own band, the Jan Cronin Band, and in a duo with veteran guitarist and singer Rickey Gulliver Godfrey.
Nashville called when, on a visit from DC, Jan snagged Best Female Vocalist honors in a singing contest at the Nashville Palace. The win earned her an invitation to perform at the Palace for a week. After moving to Nashville, Jan met the love of her life, the late songwriter/guitarist Lefty Ken Howell. Howell, in addition to eventually recruiting Jan as his wife, recruited her into his popular band, Lefty Ken and The Blues Rats.
Jan has opened for Jimmy Hall and The Prisoners of Love, sung with Clifford Curry and Earl Gaines, and provided backing vocals for Miranda Louise and others. She has sung at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Her oldies show band performed all over the country, opening for The British Invasion Tour, Ronnie Spector, and Adam Ant. Jan was nominated for a Washington Area Music Award (WAMMIE) as Best Female Vocalist. And in a singing career that has seen all kinds of gigs, she was also once a “Rootette” in the legendary Root Boy Slim & The Sex Change Band.
