Music and Spirituality: Live Concert and Talk
Professor Noé Dinnerstein is a scholar and performer who has been involved with the spiritual culture and performing arts of India and the Himalayas for over 50 years. He will mix discussions of the different spiritual threads in the region with performances in various genres: Hindu and Muslim devotional songs, Indian classical raga performance on sitar, and Buddhist inspired secular songs from Ladakh and Tibet.
Noé Dinnerstein is an ethnomusicologist with a background in the musics of India, Tibet, Ladakh, and Ireland, and has been a professional sitar player for the past 40 years. He was a disciple of the late sitar virtuoso Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra of the Maihar Gharana, and currently studies with Pandit Partha Bose, He was also a long-time voice student of the late Pandit Pran Nath of the Kirana Gharana. Dr. Dinnerstein is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor of music at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY.
