Please note, this event has expired.
Meet in the Frist Art Museum Cafe for what has become a much-anticipated annual Friday-after-Thanksgiving tradition: An evening with Barry and Holly Tashian and the superb Eclectic Five band.
Barry and Holly Tashian (guitar, upright bass and vocals) have toured worldwide and made numerous appearances on The Grand Ole Opry, A Prairie Home Companion and many other international radio and television programs. Their songs are recorded by Kenny Rogers, Solomon Burke, Irish crooner Daniel O’Donnell and others. In 1966, Barry and his band “The Remains” opened for The Beatles’ last American tour. From 1980-1989 Barry toured and recorded with Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band. Since 1972, Barry and Holly have recorded 7 award-winning albums for Rounder Records, Copper Creek and Strictly Country.
Al Goll (Dobro) is an adjunct professor of Dobro at Belmont Academy of Music and a regular performer and contributor at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. He has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe playing country, bluegrass and Hawaiian music.
Al and Emily Cantrell have been touring and performing their original folk and bluegrass music in concerts and festivals since 1985. Their performances feature Emily Cantrell’s songs, her strong rhythm guitar (especially her swing style), Al Cantrell’s contest-winning fiddling in traditional, swing and Irish styles, their duet harmonies, “fiddlesticks” (“playing the straws”) and a wide variety of songs from bluegrass to Broadway musicals.
The Cantrells have recorded four CDs of mostly original songs featuring Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Ranger Doug and Too Slim from “Riders in the Sky”, Jim Hurst, Rob Ickes, Tim O’Brien and Mark Schatz of “Nickel Creek”. These recordings receive radio airplay across the US and in other countries.
