Rodney Dillard, Chris Hillman, John McEuen and Herb Pederson discuss the bluegrass influences that led to the creation of the Los Angeles country-rock music scene. Rodney Dillard is a member of the bluegrass band the Dillards, who were also known as the fictional Darling family on “The Andy Griffith Show.” Chris Hillman began his music career playing with the bluegrass groups the Scottsville Squirrel Barkers and the Golden State Boys and went on to perform as part of the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Desert Rose Band. John McEuen is a founding member of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and a solo artist. He has also contributed to albums by Steve Martin and Michael Martin Murphey. Herb Pedersen was a member of the Desert Rose Band and the Laurel Canyon Ramblers. He has also worked with Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons, John Prine, Linda Ronstadt and Country Music Hall of Fame members Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson and Earl Scruggs. Offered in support of the exhibition Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock, presented by City National Bank and made possible in part by the Academy of Country Music and exhibit playlist partner Amazon Music.
