Opening Reception: Yasmine El-Chaer "An Immigrants’ Daughter"
“An Immigrants’ Daughter” by local Palestinian-American artist Yasmine El-Chaer opens at Studio 66 Sat., Nov. 3 with a reception from 6-9pm, during the downtown Art Crawl on the eve of election week.
Yasmine El-Chaer: “An Immigrants’ Daughter” revolves around the experience that she and other girls have grown up around in America. Yasmine wants to create a series of work that sheds light on the life of second generation women. She feels that they are an underrepresented class and, due to her own experiences, was moved to speak on the topic.
With this series, An Immigrants’ Daughter, I am exploring the experience of second generation immigrant children. Second generation immigrants are an underrepresented class and women, even more so, are often dismissed in conversations surrounding our experiences and dedication to the motherland. I want to bring light to the life of those around me and to let everyone know that we, as immigrant’s daughters, have a voice in America.
