Phish are the ultimate psychedelic jam band, and they’ve got the diehard fanbase to prove it!
Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, Phish started out playing Grateful Dead covers and distributing numerous home-recorded tapes before getting serious with 1988 double album Junta. By the early ’90s, the band had developed a unique performance style that incorporated extensive audience participation, the use of secret languages, and jumping on trampolines while playing their instruments, further fueling their ever-growing cult popularity. By 1993, they were headlining festivals and selling out Madison Square Garden, foreshadowing the continued success they would enjoy as their quasi-mythical reputation continued to grow throughout the decade. Reuniting after a brief hiatus from 2004-2008, the band continues to treat their loyal fans to their legendary live shows on tour in 2014.
