Poetry in the Boro | Navita Gunter and Actors Reading Poetry
Please note, this event has expired.
Our featured program will include poet Navita Gunter and a short “Actors Reading Poetry” segment, back by popular demand. Our scheduled open mic host is Nick Bush.
NAVITA GUNTER came on the Nashville poetry scene several years ago at the first ever African American owned and run coffee shop on Jefferson Street called Kijiji’s, where she hosted the first ever weekly open-mic every Friday evening. It was the “in” place to be at the time, and even poets from other cities heard and came to share their special words at Kijiji’s. These days, Navita is a Murfreesboro resident who will soon be launching her first ever book of poetry, N2Words. She is also a cervical cancer survivor and founder of the Cervical Cancer Coalition of TN. She is the recipient of numerous community service awards, including a 2017 Unity Award presented by MTSU. Navita is a regular contributor at Poetry in the Boro and has also been an invited poet at the Boro Art Crawl.
Readers can share ONE piece of poetry, spoken word, or even short short prose. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too. If a piece is over 4 minutes, please speak to the hosts to see if they can accommodate that.
If you want to do the word challenge chosen by last month’s audience, they are: fruitcake | jalapeño | queen | curdle | run | absence | aorta | plethora | sausage | duplicitous Use 1 or use all 10!
