Brenda Butka is a retired physician, who has been writing since childhood. She has been active in Vanderbilt’s Literature, Arts, and Medicine programs, and has a chapbook of poetry, Altered Geography: Little Marrowbone, and a second chapbook combining poems and drawings, Drawing the Resistance, based on a show of street drawings during demonstrations here in Nashville. In 2017 her poem “Intensive Care” was cited as the best poem of the year by Annals of Internal Medicine, and she has been published in The Threepenny Review, Florida Review, Slant, The Cortland Review, Vox Populi, and elsewhere.
