Polar Bear Plunge at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan
Help raise money for Camp Widji as you dive into Percy Priest Lake at our Polar Bear Plunge, Widji’s signature event. Bring the whole family for face painting, winter arts and crafts, penguin bowling and more!
Camp Widji’s annual New Year’s Day tradition invites participants to dive into the frigid waters of Percy Priest Lake and help send kids to camp. The Polar Bear Plunge Festival takes place from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, Jan. 1, and includes a host of fun, family activities for plungers and spectators alike, including face painting, winter themed arts and crafts, games and a costume contest. Hot chocolate and other treats will of course be on the menu.
Camp Widji hosts the Polar Bear Plunge as a fundraiser each year to help send deserving kids to camp through scholarships. This year the camp directors are having a contest to reach a goal to send 1,000 kids to camp in 2019. As part of the contest, Polar Bear Plunge participants can choose to designate their registration fee and/or donate to one of three program areas: Day Camp, Overnight Camp or Ranch Camp. In return, camp directors will participate in the plunge when $500 has been raised for their program area, and participate in an additional challenge when $1,000 is reached.
All proceeds from the event provide scholarships for deserving kids to attend YMCA Camp Widjiwagan day and overnight camps.
